LeBron James moves into fourth place all-time in assists in the NBA

According to Basketball Reference on Tuesday, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers moved from sixth place to fourth place all-time in assists. The native of Akron, Ohio now has 10338 assists all-time, and moved past Steve Nash of Victoria, British Columbia (10335 assists all-time) and Mark Jackson of Brooklyn, New York (10334 assists all-time). On a side note, it is rather surprising that Jackson, who is sixth all-time in the NBA in assists, is not yet a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.

James had 11 helpers in a 129-123 Lakers overtime win over the New York Knicks. He in fact had a triple-double, as he had 28 points and 11 rebounds. James also added one steal and was a +22.

John Stockton, who played his entire NBA career with the Utah Jazz from 1984 to 2003, is the all-time leader in assists. The native of Spokane, Washington, has 15806 helpers. Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd of San Francisco, California is second on the list with 12091 assists. Kidd is followed by Chris Paul of the Phoenix Suns. The native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina is the active leader in assists with 11249.

James meanwhile is on the verge of catching Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of New York, New York for the most points all-time. James is 88 points back of Abdul-Jabbar. James has 38,299 points, while Abdul-Jabbar has 38,387 points. The Lakers next four games are in Indiana on Thursday, in New Orleans on Saturday, before hosting Oklahoma City on Tuesday, and then Milwaukee next Thursday.

With the win against the Knicks, the Lakers improve to a record of 24 wins and 28 losses. They are two games back of the Pelicans for a spot in the NBA Play-in Tournament.
