LeBron James becomes oldest NBA player with a 30-point triple double
December 15, 2021
LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers continues to deliver with masterful performances. On Sunday night against the Orlando Magic at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, James became the oldest player in NBA history to record a 30-point triple double. At 36 years and 347 days old, James had 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists as the Lakers defeated the Magic 106-94.
James broke the record previously held by former Lakers legend Kobe Bryant. On  November 30, 2014, Bryant was 36 years and 99 days, when he had 31 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds in a 129-122 Lakers win over the Toronto Raptors.
The oldest player in NBA history also has a Lakers connection. During his final season in the NBA with the Lakers after 18 seasons with the Utah Jazz, Karl Malone was 40 years and 127 days old when he had 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 Â assists in a 103-87 Lakers win over the San Antonio Spurs on November 28, 2003.
This was James’s second triple-double this season. He previously had 20 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in a 108-95 Lakers loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on December 9, 2021.
James now has 101 triple doubles all-time. He is fifth all-time. The NBA all-time leader in triple doubles is James’s Lakers teammate Russell Westbrook, who has 189. So far this season, Westbrook has five triple-doubles. The players in between Westbrook and James on the all-time triple double list are Oscar Robertson (181), Magic Johnson (138), and Jason Kidd (107).
With the win, the Lakers improve to 15 wins and 13 losses. The Magic fall to five wins and 23 losses. Orlando has the most losses in the NBA this year. They have one more loss than the Detroit Pistons.
