College Football

In 2013 Trubisky committed to Coach Larry Fedora and played for the University of North Carolina. It wasn’t until 2014 that he made his debut, playing ten games as a backup to starting Quarterback Marquise Williams. His game was against Liberty and it resulted in a 56-29 win. Fast forward to the end of the season and Trubisky appeared in North Carolina’s bowl game against Rutgers. As a sophomore, Trubisky played in nine games, again playing as a backup to Williams. His stand out game was against Delaware in which he was 17 of 20 for 312 yards and four touchdown passes in the 41-14 victory.

Trubisky finally got his opportunity as the starting quarterback in 2016. He played in all 13 games, his best effort was against Pittsburgh with 35 of 46 for 453 yards and five touchdown passes. His stats for the season were 3,478 passing yards with 30 touchdowns.

Trubisky nominated for the 2017 NFL Draft, in doing so he gave up his final year of college eligibility. He was taken in the first round as overall pick number two by the Chicago Bears.

NFL Career

In his first season, Trubisky played in 12 games with his debut under the Monday Night lights against Minnesota. In doing so he became the first Chicago Bears rookie to start at Quarterback since Kyle Orton in 2005.

Now in his second season, Trubisky starred over the weekend in his breakout game for the Bears against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He completed 19 of 26 passes for 354 yards, six touchdowns and zero interceptions in the 48-10 victory. It was a great game from Trubisky and that is why he’s the deserving Future Star of the Week for The Sporting Base.
