Caulfield Cup winner Kingswood is being set for the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin in December, with trainer Gavin Bedggood mapping out a path that includes one more run in Melbourne.
Bedggood confirmed to Racing.com on Thursday morning that the current plan was for Kingswood to contest the 2400m Vase at the Hong Kong International Races on 13 December, Racing.com reported.
The British-bred entire is most likely to have his next start in the Group 2 Zipping Classic over 2400m at Sandown Hillside on 14 November, Bedggood added.
Bedggood had already ruled Kingswood out of the Melbourne Cup earlier in the week. “In hindsight maybe I should’ve had a nomination in but no, there’ll be no Melbourne Cup for him this year. Maybe next year,” he told Triple M on Monday, 7NEWS reported.
Proven away from home
Kingswood has already shown he can handle travel and right-handed tracks under Bedggood, having won the Group 1 Zabeel Classic at Ellerslie in New Zealand on Boxing Day last year.

Spring Carnival form has stood up in the race before. Dunaden (2011) and Red Cadeaux (2012) both won the Vase after their spring campaigns in Melbourne.
A runner in Hong Kong would be another big step for Bedggood, who trained his first winner at the Alexandra picnic races in 2017.
