We now know the two teams who will play for the Super Bowl on February 9. The Philadelphia Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
In the National Football Conference Championship, the Eagles had a spectacular offensive performance. They scored the seventh most points in a NFL playoff game in a 55-23 win over the Washington Commanders. The National Football League record for the most points in a playoff game belongs to the Chicago Bears. Ironically, the Bears clobbered the Washington Redskins 73-0 in the NFL Championship Game on December 8, 1940.
It was Philadelphia’s ground game that was exceptional as they had seven rushing touchdowns. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts of Houston, Texas and Eagles running back Saquon Barkley of The Bronx, New York had three touchdowns each. Barkley finished the game with 122 total yards (118 yards rushing and four yards receiving). It was the fourth quarter where the Eagles offense soared. After three quarters, the Commanders were still in the game, as they trailed 34-23. In the final 15 minutes, the Eagles scored 21 points on three touchdowns.
The Chiefs won a much more closer contest. They won 32-29 over the Buffalo Bills in the American Football Conference Championship. Kansas City got a key touchdown by quarterback Patrick Mahomes on a 10 yard run early in the fourth quarter to take a 29-22 lead. After Buffalo tied it at 29, the Chiefs got a game-winning 35-yard field goal by placekicker Harrison Butker of Decatur, Georgia with three minutes and 33 seconds left to close out the scoring.
