For the second straight week the DP World Tour made golf headlines. Last weekend it was because of the spectacular golfing of Shane Lowry in Ireland. This week it was because of the horrendous golfing from Jon Rahm of Barrika, Spain at the BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England.
Rahm is currently 138th out of 138 golfers who completed the second round of play. He did finish ahead of six other golfers who did not complete their round.
In the first round, Rahm had a score six-over-par 78. Then in the second round, he had a score of five-over-par 77. Rahm’s total score of +11 was 13 shots over the cut line of -2. Rahm was also 23 strokes worse than the current leader, Ryan Gerard of Raleigh, North Carolina, who was in first place at -12.
We have seen terrible performances by elite golfers before. The one that comes to mind came from world number two Rory McIlroy of Holywood, Northern Ireland. McIlroy was 149th out of 153 golfers at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open in Toronto, Ontario.
In addition to making golf headlines on the course, Rahm is making golf headlines off the course too. He is owed an exorbitant amount of money from the LIV Tour as the struggling organization has filed for bankruptcy.
It will be interesting to see when we see Rahm on the golf course next. I don’t expect it to be for a while. That is because there are no more meaningful events for Europeans in golf the rest of the calendar year and because Rahm’s wife is expecting their fourth child.
