We are now at the halfway point of the 2024 Chevron Championship and we have a two-way tie for the lead. At -8 is South Korea’s Jin Hee Im and Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul.
Im was three-under-par after the first round, and then shot a score of five-under-par in round two. On Thursday, Im had five birdies and two bogeys. She birdied the fourth, eighth, 14th, 16th, and 17th holes, and bogeyed the third and 11th holes. Then on Friday, Im had five birdies. She birdied the fourth, sixth, eighth, 13th, and 17th holes.
Like Im, Thitikul was three-under-par in the first round, and then shot a score of five-under-par in round two. On Thursday, Thitikul birdied the fourth, eighth, ninth, 15th and 18th holes, and bogeyed the first and sixth holes. Then on Friday, Thitikul had six birdies and one bogey. She birdied the fifth, seventh, eighth, 13th, 15th, and 18th holes, and bogeyed the 14th hole.
There are seven more golfers in contention. Alone in third place is world number one and 2021 Women’s PGA Championship winner and reigning Olympic gold medalist Nelly Korda of Bradenton, Florida at -7. Korda had won her last four events she has participated in.
Hae-ran Ryu of South Korea is alone in fourth place at -6 and two strokes back. There is then a five-way tie for fifth place at -5 and three strokes back. There you find American Lauren Coughlin (the round one leader), South Korea’s Shinsil Bang, China’s Weiwei Zhang, Sweden’s Maja Stark, and Japan’s Minami Katsu.
