STAR jockey Damian Lane’s domination of Melbourne racing has stepped up to another level in recent weeks.

In the past week, he has won nine races from 22 rides. From January 18 he has ridden 18 winners. For the month of January he rode 28 winners, which must be close to a record for a calendar month in Victoria.

He has ridden 56 winners in Melbourne at an amazing strike rate of 21.80%. He has almost doubled the next best jockey which is Michael Dee on 29 winners.

Lane hasn’t won a Melbourne Jockeys’ Premiership yet but that looks certain to change.

On Saturday at Caulfield Lane has seven rides of which only his two rides for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, Smokin’ Giant in the second race and Eneeza in the fourth race are favourites.

There’s little doubt though if you stay in his lane for the afternoon in terms of punting you could be in for a very good day.
