Inside look at Cavaliers 12-0 start
November 14, 2024
One of the biggest stories in the National Basketball Association this season is the fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers have won their first 12 games. Yes, they are still a dozen wins back of the Golden State Warriors’s record of 24 wins to start the season. However, this 12 game winning streak deserves praise because any time a professional sports team has a double digit winning streak at any point of the season, it is noteworthy.
The Cavaliers broke a franchise record of eight straight wins to start the 1976-77 season. Cleveland did hang on to make the 1977 NBA playoffs, but finished the regular season at 43 wins and 39 losses. That means after their eight game winning streak, they went 35-39 the rest of the way.
Cleveland began the season with a dominant 136-106 win over the Toronto Raptors on October 23. The 30-point win was their largest margin of victory this season, and matched the most number of points they have had in a game this season. Cleveland also beat the Golden State Warriors 136-117 on November 8.
The Cavaliers have had one more win this season by 20+ points. They clobbered the Los Angeles Lakers 134-110 on October 30.
Darius Garland of Gary, Indiana has the most points scored by a Cavaliers player this season. He had 39 points in a 116-114 Cavaliers win over the Milwaukee Bucks on November 4. Cleveland has also beaten Detroit 113-101 on October 25, Washington 135-116 on October 26, New York 110-104 on October 28, Orlando 120-109 on November 1, Milwaukee 114-113 on November 2, New Orleans 131-122 on November 6, Brooklyn 105-100 on November 9, and Chicago 119-113 on November 11.
So far this season, the Cavaliers leading scorer is Donovan Mitchell of Elmsford, New York. He is averaging 23.7 points per game. Cleveland next plays Philadelphia on Wednesday.
