Horse To Follow & Horse To Sack From Flemington – Saturday 9th January

The first addition of the year for the “Horses to follow & sack” from Saturday’s Victorian Metropolitan meeting is from Flemington!

Horse To Follow:

Defibrillate

  • Race 6
  • Distance: 2000m
  • Class: HCP

This now 6yo gelding continues to improve and won again in scintillating fashion on Saturday.

After winning his final 2 races in New Zealand before making the trip over to Australia he has been able to add another 5 career wins from just 8 starts making his overall record now 11:7-2-0.

After starting slowly, jockey Billy Egan restrained his mount to the rear of the field. Off a slow tempo, he swung around the corner swinging off him and quickly put pay to his rivals scoring a soft victory.

He recorded the 2nd fastest L200m &L400m sectional of the day accompanied by the 3rd fastest L600m sectional of the day.

When To Bet

I’m not entirely sure what the team have in mind for him however, he will be paid to follow. Could be a horse that’s targeted for the Adelaide Cup or the Andrew Ramsden to gain entry into the Melbourne Cup.

Horse To Sack:

Riding The Wave

  • Race 7
  • Distance : 1400m
  • Class : Listed

He was heavily supported on Saturday and quite frankly was extremely lacklustre and as a result he features in our “Sack files”

Easy to say now, however, he looked extremely short in opening markets and I couldn’t understand the money that continued to roll in for him. He ended up starting odds on!

He sat outside the breakaway leader in Coming Along and tracked into the race quite generously and looked as though he would contest the finish at the 300m.

That was quickly put to bed as he completely stopped and failed to run out a strong 1400m finishing 5th beaten just under 2 lengths.

He’s not at Listed level yet and he just looks as though he will be going backwards this preparation now with him most likely having to drop back to 1200m.

Not a fan of horses going backwards in work and therefore he has to be sack.
