Max Homa of Burbank, California has won his second career PGA Tour event. Two seasons after winning the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, Homa beat Tony Finau of Salt Lake City Utah, to win the 2021 Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, in a two-hole playoff.

Homa and Finau both finished their 72 holes at -12. Homa had two rounds of six-under-par 66, and two rounds of one-under-par 70.

Heading into the final day on Sunday, Homa was three strokes back of the leader Sam Burns of Shreveport, Louisiana. Play was suspended on Saturday due to high winds, meaning players needed to not only finish round three, but complete another 18 holes of round four as well.

Despite posting scores of seven-under-par 64 in round one, and four-under-par 66 in round two, Burns struggled in the third round with a score of three-over-par 74 to move back to -8. In the fourth round, Burns only had a score of two-under-par 69, and finished in third place, and one stroke back of Homa and Finau.

It was also a strong showing for Cameron Smith of Brisbane. He was all alone in fourth place at -9.

At 30 years of age, Homa has been on the PGA Tour since 2015. However, he has struggled mightily in major tournaments, as he has missed the cut four times, and only made the cut once–at the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black where he finished tied for 64th.

It has also been a struggle for Homa at World Golf Championship events. He has only been in two of them, and finished 61st and 52nd at the 2019 and 2020 WGC Fed-Ex St. Jude Invitational in Memphis respectively.
