Michael Miller has this horse absolutely flying at the minute. Led them along last start over the mile 4.5L faster than average to the 1000m, was attacked entirely throughout, shook off the other on-speed runners and was only grabbed late by the swoopers. It was an incredibly brave performance and the last time we saw him over this trip, he’s run 3rd beaten 0.1L Mr Fahrenheit (who’s gone on to perform well in much better races than this) when not able to find the fence and made to punch the breeze throughout. Finds it hard to win, yes, but there is no speed engaged in this race and Vic should be able to roll across to the top from the barrier with ease and dictate proceedings. Rock-hard fit, tough on-speed, soft lead, have a feeling he will give an almighty sight.

Race 6 – 4:15PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (2100 METRES)

1. Luke’s Pierro – 5. Django Dream – 10. Masaru – 4. Northeast Eagle

Race 7 – 4:55PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

6. Yarralea – 9. Sheer Magnum – 8. Belle Journee – 11. Pasaran

Yarralea

Drops back from 3yo grade to a CL1 and after Kesh’s claim, gets in with 1kg less, great placement from Neville Parnham. The 3yo formlines she brings are just far superior to her rivals here. Close up at her past two behind very progressive filly Crystal’s Dream, form around Laced Up Heels and Amelia’s Jewel from earlier in her prep after her terrific run in the Burgess Queen. Drawn for a midfield run with cover here for Dhurun, drops sharply in grade and carries less weight, the last time we saw her in a C1 was October 2022 when beaten a lip by Lord Gannicus. Love the placement, nice filly.

2 Units WIN

Sheer Magnum

Likely leader in the race and broke through last start for a deserving win, she’s a very tough on-speed type from what we’ve already seen early in her career. Bolted in last start at Pinjarra over the trip to break her maiden. Drew wide there, had to do some work early to get across to the breeze on a very solid tempo, the most impressive aspect of the victory was that although it was an on-speed day, she punched the breeze outside a genuine tempo and still reeled off the best L200m split of the race to the post. The draw offers her not a lot of favours again here, but there isn’t a great deal of genuine exposed speed underneath. If Laqdar can work her across to lead without spending too much gas, she’s going to give them something to run down, don’t want to lose on her.

1 Unit WIN

Race 8 – 5:30PM AUSTRALIA DAY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

7. Henry The Aviator – 2. Be Optimistic – 3. Thorogood – 6. Wakan Tanka

Henry The Aviator

Thought he was one of the runs of the meeting arguably the last time we saw him over the 1200m in Saturday company. Was a huge on-pace bias day, drew wide and got back to second last, savaged the line down the middle of the track against the pattern and posted a terrific figure in doing so. Born To Talk who finished behind him that day has already since come out and won last Saturday, further franking the strength of that form. Up to 1400m here, finds a weaker race in terms of depth and actually drops 1.5kgs off his back. All boxes ticked for him. The slightly tricky spot for him being the traffic he may or may not encounter from barrier 1 and most likely lobbing 3 back the fence in running. Expect Amber Highway and Wakan Tanka set a genuine enough tempo that breaks them up enough to give Harvey ample time to get off the fence. Really progressive galloper, with clear galloping room he is going to prove very hard to beat. Just getting on the tin side of the ledger at even money, $2.50 and happy to get involved late.

3.5 Units WIN @$2.50+ BSP

Race 9 – 6:07PM FURPHY BUNBURY CUP AT ASCOT 11TH MARCH HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

13. Vonsnip – 2. It’s All A Rumour – 4. Red Orca – 11. Lady Tornado

Staking Plan
  • Race 5 Heaps Of Moolah 1 Unit WIN
  • Race 7 Yarralea 2 Units WIN/Sheer Magnum 1 Unit WIN
  • Race 8 Henry The Aviator 3.5 Units WIN @$2.50+ BSP

4 Units Staked, potential for 7.5 units if we see our bet price in race 8. Good luck.
