FREE: Ascot Selections & Staking Plan: Wednesday 4th May
May 4, 2022
Penultimate Ascot meeting for the season awaits us today before the imminent return to Belmont. Track is a Good 4, the rail goes out the 15m with a cutaway in the straight, and a couple of favourites early in the card look terribly hard to beat.
Race 1 – 1:14PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
4. Alsephina – 1. My Marlaina – 2. Born To Talk – 3. Northern Ruler
Alsephina
We were with her on debut when she was smashed in the betting ($3.10 into $1.85) and she looks a serious talent. That debut win was run 5L faster than maiden average, super strong performance. Maps to land on the back of leader My Marlaina here, stalks her in the run and has a cutaway to her advantage to go past if she needs room. Marked $1.85 so happy getting involved at anything north of $2.00.
3 Units WIN @$2.00+ BSP
Race 2 – 1:54PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
4. Desert Vixen – 2. Diminutive Jewel – 6. Lady Tornado – 5. Glacier Miss
Desert Vixen
Comes out of 3yo feature racing last preparation into a CL1 here off the back of a very stylish trial where she just cruised around under her own steam without the Blinkers on. Gets them back on here, lands in a dream spot for Carbery and all the form around her from last prep more than stacks up here. Really keen at the $2.20.
3.5 Units WIN @$2.20
Diminutive Jewel
Want to have a very small half unit play on this debutant for Joy Kelly. His 2 trials have really impressed me and he looks to have an untapped motor under the hood. Keen they can run the quinella here and having drifted out to double figures, happy to have a half unit to chop some out on the chance that he is well above average.
0.5 Units WIN
Race 3 – 2:34 PM CROWN PERTH MAIDEN (1500 METRES)
2. The Admiral – 3. Gold Friars – 10. Delta Anne – 5. Maximum Impact
The Admiral
We were with him on debut in WA and thought that run was huge. Never suited going back from the wide gate, actually jumped really well but was snagged and in a dawdle of a race still savaged the line, having to sustain a run from a long way out. From a much better gate can hold up much closer to the speed here and in an awfully thin maiden, poses my best bet of the day.
4 Units WINÂ
Race 4 – 3:10PM AMELIA PARK LODGE HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
7. Ginger Mack – 3. Birdieagle – 4. Money For Old Rope – 9. Buckland
Race 5 – 3:45PM FLYING COLOURS RESTAURANT HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
2. Schoolhouse Rock – 1. King Cruzer – 5. War Gem – 3. Guard The Safe
Race 6 – 4:25PM BYRON BAY PREMIUM LAGER HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
2. Scorpion Stormz – 9. Wunderkind – 10. Dream Evil – 8. Kazoku
Scorpion Stormz
Never in the race 1st up in a hot race at that behind Sniparoochy, hit the line from a mile off them in some of the best closing splits of that race. Thought the trial prior to that run was super, drops sharply back in grade to a CL3 and maps to land one out, one back here in the box-seat. Would love each way, but marked him $4.80 and happy to be on small here.
1 Unit WIN
Race 7 – 5:00PM SEACORP HANDICAP (1800 METRES)
2. Shadow Girl – 7. Arnray – 3. Ground Braker – 1. Egg White
