Dodgers sign outfielder Kyle Tucker to a massive contract

The defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers just made a huge splash in Major League Baseball free agency on Thursday and have put them in position to win three consecutive World Series titles. They came to terms on one of the most coveted free agents on the market, and gave Kyle Tucker a contract the star outfielder simply could not refuse. According to the Associated Press, Tucker signed a four-year contract worth $240 million. It is the second biggest contract in MLB history. The only player who is earning more money at this time is Shohei Ohtani, Tucker’s new Dodgers teammate, at $70 million per year.

Tucker is joining his third Major League Baseball franchise. He was with the Houston Astros for seven seasons from 2018 to 2024, and with the Chicago Cubs in 2025. A four-time All-Star, he led the American League with 112 ruins batted in during the 2023 season.

In 2025, Tucker batted .266 with 22 home runs and 73 runs batted in. During 136 games, 500 at bats and 597 plate appearances, he scored 91 runs  and had 133 hits, 25 doubles, four triples, 25 stolen bases, 87 walks, 232 total bases, the first sacrifice bunt of his MLB career, three sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .377, and a slugging percentage of .464. Tucker’s sacrifice bunt came in a 5-3 Cubs win over the Baltimore Orioles on August 3.

Tucker had three monster games for the Cubs in 2025. He had one single, two doubles and a home run on March 31 in an 18-3 Cubs win over the Athletics. That was followed by two singles, one double and one home run on June 28 in a 12-3 Cubs win over the Houston Astros, and two home runs and five runs batted in on August 23 in a 12-1 Cubs win over the Los Angeles Angels.

One team that was very interested in Tucker was the Toronto Blue Jays. Now the focus for the Blue Jays should be bringing back Bo Bichette, but it appears at this time the Jays have competition with the Philadelphia Phillies for Bichette’s services.
