CYLINDER READY TO FIRE UP IN THE HEAT

FLEMINGTON will be a hot place on the track and off it on Saturday and as a result the meeting will now start at 10.45am and the feature event the Newmarket Handicap will be run at 12.45pm.

James Cummings has won two of the past four Newmarket Handicaps with a three-year-old and he’s planning on making it three on Saturday with Cylinder.

Cummings winners have been Bivouac in 2020 and In Secret last year.

Bivouac has already headed to stud as a stallion and Cummings said if Cylinder could win he would also find himself on the Darley stallion roster.

Cummings identified this race for Cylinder as a key target for him and predicted that he would run an improved race on his first-up sixth in the Black Caviar Lightning where he was only a couple of lengths behind Imperatriz.

“Cylinder could be right there in the finish as dropping to a handicap as a three-year-old is perfect for him at this time of the year,” Cummings said on SEN Track.

“Dropping to 51.5kg for a horse who’s capable of being up there on the pace creating his own luck and he’s a horse who is adaptable and has overcome bad luck to score over six furlongs, it can read pretty well.”

“Since the Lightning, I’ve enjoyed seeing the horse tighten-up in condition. He’s improved from that run and this week has been about putting the finishing touches on the horse for the Newmarket.”

Cylinder will be ridden by Jamie Kah who has won the Blue Diamond Stakes on Hayasugi and the Australian Guineas on Southport Tycoon at nice odds over the past two Saturdays.

Cylinder continues the trend as he is $12 with PlayUp.
