The Chicago Cubs are the second best team in the National League at the moment. One reason is because they have gone on two 10-game winning streaks. Their first 10-game winning streak went from April 14-24, and the latest streak went from April 28-May 8. To put the 10-game winning streak into perspective, it is the first time the Cubs have had two 10-game winning streaks in the same season since 1935 according to the Associated Press.
In the last 10-game winning streak, the Cubs defeated the San Diego Padres 8-3 and 5-4, the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5, 2-0 and 8-4, the Cincinnati Reds 5-4, 3-2, 7-6 and 8-3, and the Texas Rangers 7-1. During the streak, the Cubs won half of their games by one run, and outscored their opposition 59-32.
With the latest 10 game winning streak, the Cubs have created some separation between themselves and their division rivals in the National League Central. They have a three and a half game lead on the second place Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals, and a five game lead on the fourth place Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds.
The Cubs have been getting great production lately from outfielder Michael Conforto, who is batting .364 in 44 at bats. On the mound, Cubs starting pitcher Shota Imanaga has an earned run average of 2.28.
Chicago has a record this season of 27 wins and 14 losses. The only team better in the National League are the Atlanta Braves at 28 wins and 13 losses. The Tampa Bay Rays are the only other team better than the Cubs in Major League Baseball as they are at 26 wins and 13 losses (eight percentage points better than the Cubs).
