Corstens confident of strong showing from The Astrologist

The Troy and Leon Corstens trained five-year-old is all systems go ahead of his run in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap tomorrow, down the Flemington straight.

After running a big race in weight-for-age company last start at Caulfield behind Sansom and Streets of Avalon, trainer Troy Corstens is more than excited to see his star sprinter head down the straight at headquarters.

“I thought he was still really good. First time weight for age at Caulfield and around the bend.

“He just seems to go that one pace down the straight and when you think he’s had enough he finds that little bit extra. He loves it, he just really thrives down the straight,” said Corstens.

The up and coming sprinter has been up for quite some time kicking off this preparation back in May in the Listed Chief De Beers at Doomben.

However, after a short freshen up before his Group 3 placing last start, trainer Troy Corstens is confident the horse is ready to kick on.

“That’s the little question mark because he has been up for so long but he’s shown absolutely no sign of training off whatsoever.

“If anything he’s probably improved a little bit. I’m pretty confident going into Saturday,” said Corstens.

Damien Thornton retains the ride after his last start and will look to get towards the front and should be in front for a long way.

“He went forward under weight for age conditions so I think it’s still going to suit him on Saturday to do exactly the same.

“I don’t really think it bothers him what sort of pressure there is. He sort of handles everything,” said Corstens.

If all is to go to plan tomorrow, the five-year-old is suited to a lot of the early Spring races with Corstens pinpointing one he would love to enter his galloper in.

“There’s so many good races coming up for him, I’d love to get him into a Sir Rupert Clarke down in the weights, 1400 at Caulfield.

“He’d have to run really good in the Aurie Star on Saturday and then we’ll try and raise the bar that little bit more.”

The Astrologist is currently the $5.00 favourite in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star tomorrow afternoon.
