One of the most notable offseason stories from the National Football League came in August when it was reported that Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Alabama was shot twice after a carjacking attempt. According to Ben Nagle of dailymail.com, the carjacking attempt took place on August 28 as Robinson Jr. was leaving a Washington restaurant. He was shot in the leg and hip.
On Thursday, Robinson Jr. played in his second game since the tragedy, and was a difference maker for Washington in primetime. The 23-year-old rookie from the University of Alabama, who was the Commanders’s third round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, had 60 rushing yards from 17 carries in a 12-7 Washington win over the Chicago Bears. Robinson Jr.’s touchdown was for one yard (his first NFL career touchdown), and was the game-winning touchdown as it put the Commanders up 12-7 with seven minutes and 21 seconds left in the contest. In two games, Robinson Jr. has 26 rushes for 82 yards.

On another note, this was the second straight Thursday night game in the NFL where both teams were having difficulty scoring points. Last week, the Indianapolis Colts beat the Denver Broncos 12-9. In both games, 12 points were good enough to win. According to ESPN, by halftime in Washington, there had been 40 consecutive drives over the last three weeks on Thursday Night Football without a touchdown.
The Commanders won on Thursday despite the fact the Bears controlled play in the first half. Chicago trailed Washington 3-0 after 30 minutes despite having 202 total yards compared to Washington’s 88 total yards. According to ESPN, Chicago’s 202 total yards were the most this season by a team trailing at the half. Washington’s 88 total yards were the least this season by a team leading at the half.
