Selwyn Cobbo has made it clear to Dolphins management that he wants to stay in Redcliffe for the rest of his career after opening talks on a $3 million extension.
The 24-year-old State of Origin winger was about to become one of the hottest free agents on the open market after the November 1 deadline thanks to his stunning return to form in Redcliffe, but he has plans to sign on the dotted line without speaking to an NRL rival.

Several clubs were eager to offer him at least $800,000 a season to defect from Brisbane’s north. He wants to instead take a long-term deal with the Dolphins. That contract, which still needs formalities thrashed out, would keep Cobbo in Redcliffe through to at least the end of 2032.
“Selwyn can’t be happier at the Dolphins,” said his agent, Tas Bartlett. “A long-term deal to keep Selwyn in Queensland would be the perfect outcome. In reality, we don’t want to be doing year-to-year.”
“Whatever it looks like, hopefully a multi-year contract can be worked out,” the superstar’s management told the Courier Mail.
“Selwyn is on board with it, and if the Dolphins are on board, we will get it done.”
Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf has also very publicly outlined his plan to keep Cobbo, admitting the club “does want to keep him here longer.”
“There’s no doubt about that. Selwyn has been great. He’s fitted in seamlessly. He’s really bought into everything,” he explained earlier this week.
The Dolphins boss added: “He’s fit in with what we want the club to be about. He’s shown us what a talent he is on the field as well and he’s definitely a guy that we want to keep at the club longer term.”
