Two safeties switched teams in free agency on Friday. According to spotrac.com, the Kansas City Chiefs signed Mike Edwards of Cincinnati, Ohio to a one-year deal worth $3 million, and the Seattle Seahawks signed Julian Love to a two-year contract worth $12 million.

Edwards is joining his second National Football League franchise. He previously played four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 13 games in 2022, Edwards had 82 combined tackles (52 solo tackles and 30 assisted tackles), three tackles for a loss, two quarterback hits, two interceptions for 66 yards and one touchdown, three pass deflections and one sack. Edwards’s pick six was for 68 yards and came in a 20-10 Buccaneers win over the New Orleans Saints on September 18.

In Edwards’s career, he has 184 combined tackles (125 solo tackles and 59 assisted tackles), seven tackles for a loss, three quarterback hits, seven interceptions for 179 yards and three touchdowns, 21 pass deflections, one forced fumble, two sacks, and three fumble recoveries for 30 yards. The forced fumble came in a 38-31 Buccaneers win over the Indianapolis Colts on November 28, 2021. On September 19, 2021, Edwards had two pick sixes in the same game (of 31 yards and 15 yards) in a 48-25 Tampa Bay Buccaneers win over the Atlanta Falcons. He was also part of the Buccaneers team that won the Super Bowl in 2021.

Love is also joining his second NFL franchise. He previously played four seasons with the New York Giants from 2019 to 2022. In 16 games in 2022, Love had 124 combined tackles (79 solo tackles and 45 assisted tackles), six tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit, two interceptions for 44 yards, five pass deflections, one sack, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery for eight yards. The sack and quarterback hit came in a 19-16 Giants win over the Carolina Panthers on September 18. The forced fumble came in a 27-22 Giants win over the Green Bay Packers on October 9, and the fumble recovery came in a 23-17 Giants win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 23.

In Love’s career, he has played in 64 games and had 291 combined tackles (192 solo tackles and 99 assisted tackles), 13 tackles for a loss, four quarterback hits, five interceptions for 87 yards, 18 pass deflections, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries for five yards and 1.5 sacks. Love’s other career fumble recovery and half a sack came in a 13-7 Giants win over the Philadelphia Eagles on November 28, 2021.
