The barriers are set for the 150th Caulfield Cup, with favourite Cosmic Crusader drawing wide in barrier 17 and defending champion Half Yours jumping from gate 7 in Saturday’s $6 million Group 1.
Final acceptances and the barrier draw for the 2400m handicap were taken on Tuesday morning, with SEN Track and RSN and Breednet publishing the final field. The Caulfield Cup is run on Saturday 17 October, the same day as The Everest at Randwick.
Cosmic Crusader, trained by Andrea Leek and ridden by William Pike, carries 56kg and will have to work from out wide in a field of 18 after his Turnbull Stakes win at Flemington.
Half Yours, last year’s winner for Tony and Calvin McEvoy, is topweight on 57.5kg with Mark Zahra in the saddle from barrier 7.
Three European-trained runners made the field, Breednet reported. Roger Varian’s Enfjaar drew the inside gate with Ray Dawson to ride, Harry Charlton’s Wine Dark Sea jumps from 19 with Damian Lane, and Joseph O’Brien’s Starford has drawn 15.
Ciaron Maher has five runners in the final field (Middle Earth, Royal Supremacy, Saint George, Zahrann and Kings Valley) and three of the four emergencies. Saint George drew barrier 2 and Zahrann barrier 4.

Waller passes on Pinhole
Chris Waller has three runners in Asterix, Soul Of Spain and Ohope Wins, all with riders still to be confirmed. He chose not to run Pinhole, who won a ballot exemption with his Herbert Power Stakes victory last Saturday.
“We just think backing him up within seven days makes it a bit tricky as much as we want to win a Caulfield Cup,” Waller told racenet. He added that “you’ll probably see him in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup at Flemington next week.”
Knight’s Choice, the 2024 Melbourne Cup winner, drew barrier 22. Racing.com confirmed this year’s race is the 150th edition of the Caulfield Cup.
