Bunbury Selections & Staking Plan: Wednesday 17th February

An interesting midweek card down at Bunbury today with some nice horses littered throughout. I’m keen on a few that are quite short, with none of them currently hitting my marked prices as I will advise below. The rail goes out the 6m with the cutaway in play today.

Race 1 – 1:09PM BUNBURY CUP GA TICKETS ON SALE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Hot Mix – 5. Trade War – 2. Gunmetal Grey – 4. Nobel Laurance

Hot Mix

Really like this horse for Marty Allan. Last start in a 3yo Saturday race behind Magical Dream (who was well in the market in the Challenge Stakes last weekend pre-scratching), was held up for a run on straightening and struggled to find clear galloping room before getting out and really powering through the line late for 3rd. I think that is the superior form-line here and maps to position up just behind the speed in the small field and looks really hard to beat. Is just a little skinny in a really competitive race here and any price late upwards of $3.50+ is a bet, just hold fire for now.

1.5 Units WIN if $3.80+ Betfair late

Trade War’s debut performance was superb. The race rated poorly, given how slow they went in front, but to come from where he settled on debut and win the way he did showed something of a very nice type. Drawn well here for Parnham from Gate 2 with the cutaway, big danger and wouldn’t surprise if he is a really nice one for Michael Lane.

Race 2 – 1:44PM CHAFF CITY MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

11. Agent Kensington – 2. Natural Airchief – 1. Sichern – 9. Superlove

Race 3 – 2:19PM BYRON BAY BREWERY MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

4. Astro Warrior – 11. Reliable Star – 10. Allmamoney – 1. Cotchin

Race 7 – 4:50PM AMELIA PARK RACING AND BREEDING HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

7. Chiclett – 6. Born To Try – 5. Caerhelan – 3. Blazing Tycoon

Race 8 – 5:25PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

9. Fashion Queen – 6. Sunset Cruise – 2. Smoking Barrel – 3. Broadway Girl

Fashion Queen

Think this could be another of Bob’s really nice fillies he wheels out at this time of the year. Was unlucky not to win on debut before a really dominant display last start at this track to break her maiden, albeit in a moderate field. She really didn’t get out till halfway down the straight from a really sticky settling position and loved the way she picked them up with relative ease and careered away through the line. Really liked her recent trial where she out-motored 64 rater and Saturday metro performed Approach. The cutaway only looks to suit from a draw where she may find herself a little crowded turning for home, and think off a freshen she should be far too good for these.

4 Units WIN
