His jockey Daniel Stackhouse was happy to bide his time on Cosmic Crusader before he decided to make ground on the inside of his rivals around the turn and then he bounded away to win by two and a half lengths over the in-form Winnasedge and Recommendation.
The win had the wow factor element to it and he will now be taking on the top echelon of horses at his next two starts which is likely to be back at Caulfield in the G2 P.B Lawrence Stakes on August 15 and then the G1 Memsie Stakes on August 29 both over 1400m.
The 2026 Cox Plate could be the main aim for the Bob Peters owned galloper who made his debut for trainer Andrea Leek and recorded his ninth win from 19 starts.
Stackhouse may have found the horse to provide him with his first Group 1 winner.
“He’s got a lot better races to win than this but it’s a good kick-off point,” Stackhouse said.
“He’s got a beautiful big action on him. He made up that much ground up on the inside in about three strides and probably won the race there.
“He switches off at the right time and when you ask him to go he can really quicken and accelerate very fast.”
Leek said she was pleased with how Stackhouse rode him as he gave him time to settle and rode him in a fashion where he will be suited by a longer trip.
In 2019 Scales Of Justice won the Bletchingly Stakes and also the Memsie Stakes.
