The replays and sectionals have been reviewed from Saturday’s Randwick meeting. We’ve black booked a Baker winner that was sensational the final 600m despite a tough run and a star filly that looks the one to be with in the G1 Surround.
Unleeshing
The Baker mare has now built a fantastic 8: 3-2-2 career record and looks ready to work her way through Saturday BM grades after breaking through in Saturday company with an outstanding 1.4L win. The wide gate was always going to be a concern with her settling pattern and it definitely didn’t go to plan as Collett initially drifted right back to the rear without finding cover before taking off with a sustained run from the 1000m. She was entitled to be weak late but she kept motoring once she got to Lancelot Du Lac at the 200m. The time wasn’t outstanding but it was the tough run that stood out.

Tempted
Things went perfectly for the Everest runner up landing 4th behind an even tempo and she was all class rolling of Napoleonic’s heels at the top of the straight a cruising to the lead at the 200m without being asked to do much. Schofield gave her a shakeup at the furlong marker and she went on for a somewhat effortless 1.2L victory with big gaps back through the field. Her 33.24s final 600m was impressive considering she was only put under pressure the final 200m. Her match up with Apocalyptic in the G1 Surround will be a thriller but you could only see a bad gate, map or misfortune getting her beat.
