Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 18/4

The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from the third and final day of The Championships. Our analyst has Black Booked a Waller mare that has a G1 written all over her for the spring and an unlucky filly that will be hard to beat wherever she lands 2nd up.

The Waller mare had no luck in the G3 JB Carr finishing 1.3L 3rd. J Mac settled her midfield on the rail and found himself on heels from the point of the turn. He had a lap full of horse when a narrow run appeared at the 200m before McEvoy slammed the door shut on eventual winner Snitzel Dancer. She lengthened stride once clear at the 50m to close off nicely. There was some negativity about the ride but sometimes the runs just don’t come and it’s all part of the gamble in racing. She will improve off that 1st up run and will be hard to beat wherever she lands next.

Lazurra

The Waller mare was scratched from the G1 Queen of the Mile with a bad gate last week and thrown in the deep end against a quality field of boys in the G1 All Aged. She ran out of her skin at big odds settling 2 back on the rail. She was held up for a crucial 200m from the top of the straight until the furlong and charged through the line the final 100m to finish 0.9L 2nd to Beiwacht. It’s hard to say whether she would’ve beaten the Godolphin colt as her momentum was never halted but she definitely would’ve made it interesting. 

I can’t wait to see her back in mares company in the spring where she looks a real player in races like the G1 Empire Rose on Derby Day.
