Belmont Selections & Staking Plan: Wednesday 22nd September

The Ascot Spring/Summer racing carnival is fast approaching and we are now starting to see the cream of the WA racing crop returning to the track in the lead up to the best racing period of the year. Bob has got a few of his carnival hopes resuming here in the cerise and white and it’s a really open midweek card at Belmont. Cutaway in the straight and how it is playing will be crucial for one of our bets so stay tuned.

Race 1 – 1:14PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK MAIDEN (1400 METRES)

7. Champagne Dame – 9. English Bay – 3. Pale Rider – 2. Amelia’s Belief

Champagne Dame

2nd starter for the McAuliffe’s who looked to have plenty of ability at the trials before putting in a super debut run in an extremely hot form race behind 2 very handy ones in Bitofmerit and Buzzoom. Should find the top again here no problem for Chloe with the slight query being the step from 1000m – 1400m. This shouldn’t be too much of a worry as the McAuliffe stable is one of the best in the state at stepping theirs out in distance as they keep them so fit when they are in work. Best horse in the race, should just be too strong for these.

3 Units WIN

Race 2 – 1:49PM QUAYCLEAN MAIDEN (1400 METRES)

4. Star In Time – 5. Aztec Gold – 8. My Fury – 7. Be My Guide

Race 3 – 2:24PM MRS MAC’S MAIDEN (1400 METRES)

7. Justamiddy – 2. There’s A Thought – 8. Zadar Rock – 9. Hannele

Race 4 – 2:59PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

4. Fish Hook – 2. The Republican – 1. Rain God – 7. Jay Dee

Race 5 – 3:35PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

7. Testing Love – 3. Standout Rose – 1. Mantelli – 9. Tradement

Race 6 – 4:10PM AMELIA PARK LODGE HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

4. King Cruzer – 3. Hoover – 8. Antique Jewel – 2. Flicka’s Chance

King Cruzer

Really like the set-up for King Cruzer here who really impressed me with his fresh run. Naturally an on-speed type, dawdled out of the stalls, settled just worse than midfield. If he’d been able to get out at the crucial stage at the top of the straight, I have no doubt he would have been in the finish with Saturday Sun who performed really strongly on Saturday just gone in a stronger race. If he can step clean here, I think in a race lacking any real tactical early speed O’Donnell can take him to the top where he will no doubt be more comfortable. Will have taken plenty out of the 1st up run and at an each way quote, I’m really keen he runs a drum at worst here.

1 Unit EACH WAY

Race 7 – 4:45PM ALL FLAGS SIGNS & BANNERS HANDICAP (1700 METRES)

11. Jadavi – 2. Alimentaria – 3. He’s All Mighty – 1. Salon Du Cheval

Jadavi

Doesn’t win out of turn, but if the cutaway isn’t a disadvantage for runners tomorrow, I think Jadavi is going to run a very big race at a price. Traditionally, goes around missing a leg on wet tracks but that last start run on a heavily rain affected track when closing late very strongly behind Smashing and Ginger Flyer (subsequent Saturday winner) was huge, and signals for me that she might just very well be flying. Gets back onto her far more favoured dry track tomorrow, parks up 3 back the fence with a cutaway in play with a mere 51kgs on her back, if they can make ground up the cutaway then I’m very keen to get involved, just want to see how that particular part of the track is playing before locking anything in.

Units TBA

Race 8 – 5:25PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

2. Castillo De Lago – 10. Blue Horse – 1. Scorpion Stormz – 6. Special Picture

Staking Plan

Race 1 Champagne Dame 3 Units WIN

Race 6 King Cruzer 1 Unit EACH WAY

Race 7 Jadavi 1 Unit EACH WAY

7 Units Staked.
