Football Preview – Barcelona vs Real Madrid – La Liga :
La Liga’s biggest rivals do battle once again as Barcelona host Real Madrid at the Camp Nou on Sunday 28th Oct in the 272nd El Clasico.
The sides played out a tempestuous 2-2 draw in their last clash, which took place earlier this year at Camp Nou, while Barcelona came out on top last December, winning 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Messi/Ronaldo Clasico era may be over with Real Madrid’s record goalscorer now playing for Juventus and Barcelona’s star man missing out with a broken arm, but Sunday’s clash offers plenty of drama elsewhere.
Real’s poor run of form continues in recent weeks with four losses in their last six games. Despite growing speculation regarding the Real Madrid coach appointment, Julen Lopetegui will be in charge for Sunday’s game at least. Surely a loss would be the final nail in the coffin for Lopetegui?
“If you sack the coach you have to sack us all because we are the ones on the field – this is something for everyone, not just the coach.” Isco
As for La Liga champions Barca, Sunday’s match offers a glimpse of life without Messi. The Argentine has been in scintillating form this season and is the record scorer in El Clasico history (26 goals), but Barca must learn how to win without their star player after being saved by Messi a number of times already.
