Mike Moroney captured another feature race as he finishes the spring carnival in exemplary fashion when he won the Ballarat Cup with Bankers Choice.
In recent weeks he has won the VRC Champions Sprint with Roch ’n’ Horse and finished second in the Melbourne Cup with Emissary.
Moroney has been getting these results for over 30 years which underlines that he is the most under-rated trainer in Melbourne.
Next year is also shaping as a big one for him as in addition to the aforementioned horses he will also be training Alenquer who defeated State Of Rest in a Group 1 at The Curragh in May.
Alenquer will go be in work in the middle of December and Moroney will set him for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in the autumn and the Cox Plate next year.
Moroney feels Bankers Choice has the makings of a 2400 metres horse and believes he could be a Caulfield Cup prospect.
With Bankers Choice, Alenquer, Emissary and Roch’N’ Horse leading his team expect Moroney to be featuring heavily in feature races again in 2023.
