Ascot Tip Sheet & Staking Plan : Wednesday 20th January

5 years ago - Sportingbase Ascot Tip Sheet & Staking Plan : Wednesday 20th January Image
Light south westerlys winds on a very hot 36 degree forecast for the return to midweek racing at Ascot . The rail goes out the 13m, looking for the track to play fairly evenly throughout the day.

    • WA Racing Results: -5.69 Units (since 01/07/20) *Recorded at SP*

Race 1 – 2:04PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

2. Champagne Diva – 3. In The Boat – 5. Anoshar – 6. Graceful Girl

Champagne Diva

$15.00 for this galloper is overs in the opener on Wednesday. Her form actually reads really solid. 2.5L behind Madam Torio, beating home subsequent Saturday winner Our Danni, and Saturday performed Sassy Trader, 2L off the very promising Toscana and 1.5L off Sheza Chalmer and Listed placegetter First Law, before last start stepping into CL3 level and being far from disgraced over the 1200m down at Bunbury when beaten by Miss Ivy League, who was far from disgraced herself in the Black Diamond at Ascot a month back in Saturday grade. She drops back in grade here and carries less weight with the claim for the best apprentice in the state and possesses brilliant gate speed to jump to the front here in the small field. If she can cross the very impressive debut winner In The Boat, she could be very hard to run past and I’m happy to small spec here at double figs.

Race 5 – 4:20PM BYRON BAY PREMIUM LAGER HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

6. Mystery Man – 5. Iseered Iseered – 9. Fish Hook – 3. Katona

Epic race for a midweeker, with some really nice types going around here, namely Iseered Iseered, Mystery Man and Fish Hook.
Iseered Iseered was just about the plunge of the year at the Kal Round when hammered in betting and doing it easy on debut over the 1100m. Was chucked straight out and has seen 2 trials since, the first of which was very soft before clearly needing a big blow at his latest, really pushed out, ridden along when gapping them by 5 in pretty similar time to the 1st trial. I think he has to be a risk 1st up here at the price given the latest trial, despite winning by 5L to me wasn’t exactly convincing, and the form from that win at Cal hasn’t exactly stacked up, when you think about how Brave Dream was really looking for further and was never suited at 1100m and Tallinn hasn’t fired a shot since.
Mystery Man was for me, very impressive winning at his 2nd outing up the Pinny straight when easily accounting for what I don’t think was the worst maiden field you will see, with 2nd since performing well again and 7th giving them windburn at Mt Barker on Sunday. Was green around a bend in his first prep on debut but seems to have come back a much better, more temperamental horse, definitely in this and can make it 2 on the bounce with the right run. There’s plenty of speed here drawn underneath and think he could be the one to capitalise from in behind if they overdo it. On-top at the prices.
Fish Hook was a really good run behind a pretty good one I think in Acromantula on Cup Day and is drawn to hold out Iseered Iseered from the draw, with very good early speed himself. 2.5L off Chantorque from last prep also reads very nicely now since we know how good that galloper is, Parnham on, Martin Allan going well, wouldn’t surprise if he can outmuscle them.

Race 6 – 5:00PM COOL RIDGE HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

5. Firesale – 3. Big Caroline – 9. Conquered Zone – 1. Avalon Bay

Firesale
Happy to be with Firesale here in what can only be considered a fairly moderate 60+ event over the mile. Last start there is no doubt in my mind he would have been contesting the finish over the mile when badly squeezed between horses with nowhere to go for essentially the entirety of the straight when still only finishing just over 1.5L off the eventual winner in No Surrender, while the start prior in 66+ grade finishing 2L adrift of subsequent Saturday winner Ration Aly and 3rd placegetter The Fugazi, far and above the strongest form for this race. I think the horse is going really well, and if Pateman can land him midfield with cover from the gate here, he is going to be in a very nice spot to be launching over the top of them late.
