Ascot Selections & Staking Plan: Saturday 27th March

Oaks day, a personal favourite. Beautiful day for racing, it’s cooler this week, the track will play fair with the rail out to the 9 and I’m really looking forward to the racing on the day. What better way to celebrate than to dive in in the feature?

Race 1 – 12:14PM LETS CELEBRATE CITY OF BELMONT HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

4. Marocchino – 6. Unreliable – 1. Bella’s Idol – 2. Freez’emoff

Race 2 – 12:54PM TABTOUCH WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Carabinier – 1. Lord Lonsdale – 4. Prized Nemesis – 5. Uncanny Timing

Carabinier

Really good fresh horse and comes here off a nice pipe opener trial with an unlicensed jock. Scratched from an easier Wednesday race for this so you’d assume theres some confidence in the air. Beat a handy field over this track/trip 1st up last prep (inc. Pink N Gray) and maps to get a lovely cushy run leaders back here. I tend to think Lord Lonsdale isn’t as good as spruiked, and since I can happily knock every other horse in the field, happy to have Carabinier on-top here at a more than acceptable price.

1 Unit WIN

10. Amasenus – 9. Absolute – 4. Diablerie – 5. Mood Swings

Race 8 – 4:45PM CITY OF BELMONT-WA OAKS (2400 METRES)

4. Temptacion – 3. Pure Devotion – 8. Lunar Impact – 2. Reliable Star

Temptacion

Peters Investments usually have a stranglehold over the Oaks, but I am rather (very) optimistic the Danny Morton stable will have something to say about that this year. This horse is on an incredible upward spiral off the back of 2 utterly dominant wins in succession. The form has stacked up too, with Winsalot absolutely plunged and given no hope last Sunday while Fiery Bay came out and won in remarkable fashion at Pinjarra yesterday. Marocchino is no slouch either, and despite carrying extra weight, is a big lump of a horse which this girl gave a galloping lesson in a 60+ 10 days ago.  She travelled so beautifully in the run that day and once asked for an effort just let down so effortlessly, possesses a really dynamic turn of foot.  Pure Devotion should get every inch of the trip and will definitely be hardest to beat, but I love that Temptacion is going to settle closer in the run and that she is going to have to run past her to win. Really enjoy the alternate formlines she brings here up against the older horses, she’s bred to stay, she’s going to stay, she’s got so much scope and I am very happy to settle on her as the best betting proposition of the day.

3.5 Units WIN

Race 9 – 5:20PM AUTO CLASSIC BMW HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

7. State Attorney – 11. Miss Conteki – 6. River Beau – 4. Highland Beat

Staking Plan

Race 2 Carabinier 1 Unit WIN

Race 8 Temptacion 3.5 Units WIN

4.5 Units staked.
