American tennis players Madison Keys and Bjorn Fratangelo announce engagement

According to David Kane of tennis.com on Thursday, American tennis players Madison Keys of Rock Island, Illinois and Bjorn Fratangelo of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania announced their engagement. Fratangelo is 29 years of age, while Keys is 28 years old.
Keys is a grand slam finalist. She reached the 2017 United States Open final before losing to fellow American Sloane Stephens of Plantation, Florida, 6-3, 6-0. Stephens is also with a high performance athlete. She married American soccer player Jozy Altidore on New Year’s Day, 2022.
In addition to reaching the 2017 US Open, Keys has made four grand slam semifinals. Those events came at the 2015 Australian Open, 2018 French Open, 2018 United States Open, and 2022 Australian Open.
Keys is a winner of six WTA events. They came at the 2014 Eastbourne International (beat Angelique Kerber of Germany in the final, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5), the 2016 Birmingham Classic (beat Barbora Strycova of Czechia in the final, 6-3, 6-4), the 2017 Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose (beat CoCo Vandeweghe of the United States in the final, 7-6, 6-4), the 2019 Charleston Open (beat Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in the final, 7-6, 6-3), the 2019 Cincinnati Open (beat Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in the final, 7-5, 7-6), and the 2022 Adelaide International (beat American Alison Riske in the final, 6-1, 6-2). Ironically, Riske is also from Pittsburgh.
Keys has been high as ranked as seventh in the world (2016). Her current ranking on the WTA Tour is 20th.
Fratangelo’s most notable tennis success came in juniors when he beat Dominic Thiem of Austria in the final of the 2011 French Open junior boys event, 3-6, 6-3, 8-6. Fratangelo has won two matches at majors. The first win came in the first round of the 2016 French Open where he upset fellow American Sam Querrey, 6-3, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3. The second win came in the first round of the 2017 United States Open where Fratangelo beat Ivo Karlovic of Croatia, 7-6, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
