AFL Round 8: Our Best Bets

Our analyst is back for another week and has found some handy bets for you to follow.

CARLTON $1.84 v BRISBANE LIONS $1.96 – 7.50pm Friday night Marvel

Brisbane have been in great form and represent value. Their forward line is regularly kicking big scores and Carlton will be hard pressed to stop them. The Blues had a night out against the Eagles but that’s not necessarily a great form line. Brisbane have won four of their past five matches against the Blues.

  • Bet: Brisbane the win at $1.96.

RICHMOND $1.11 v WEST COAST EAGLES $6 – 1.45pm Saturday MCG

It’s the battle of the two teams which accounted for four premierships from 2017 to 2020 but that seems an eternity ago based on their recent form. Between them they have won two games for the season. Surely the Tigers can account for the Eagles who have won just three matches from their past 37 games.

  • BET: Richmond – 41.5 points $1.87

GEELONG $1.20 v ADELAIDE CROWS $4.40 – 2.10pm Saturday GMHBA

The Cats are unstoppable in recent weeks winning their past four matches. This is a bit more of a challenge as the Crows have been the surprise packed of the competition. They went down in the closing stages to the irrepressible Magpies who defeated them by a point in the dying stages last Sunday. The Cats have won their past eight matches in a row at their home ground.

  • Bet: -29.5 points $1.87

GOLD COAST SUNS $3 v MELBOURNE $1.38 – 4.35pm Saturday Gold Coast

Both teams have won their past two matches but the Demons are in great form. They also dominate the Suns having won 16 of their 19 clashes including their past ten matches. The Suns are only missing Touk Miller and could challenge Melbourne on their home deck.

  • Bet: Don’t

GWS GIANTS $2.35 v WESTERN BULLDOGS $1.57 – 7.30pm Saturday Manuka Oval

This should be the clash of the round. Both teams are playing well, week in and week out. The Bulldogs have won their past four clashes against the Giants. They scraped in when they last met by five points. The Giants though have lost their past eight matches at Manuka.

  • Bet: Don’t

FREMANTLE $1.36 v HAWTHORN $3.05 – 7.30pm Saturday Optus Stadium

Fremantle have been on of the disappointments of the competition having won only two matches. Hawthorn have only won one game but have been unlucky in a couple of matches. Look for another plucky performance from the Hawks.

  • Bet: +17.5 points $1.87

PORT ADELAIDE $1.49 v ESSENDON $2.55  – 1.10pm Sunday Adelaide Oval Sunday

Port are one of the form teams in the competition having won their past four matches including defeating top of the ladder St Kilda last round. The Bombers were run down by Collingwood in their Anzac Day clash and then have away a big start against the Cats. Port has won their past five games against Essendon.

  • Bet: Don’t

COLLINGWOOD v SYDNEY SWANS – 3.20pm Sunday MCG Sunday

Collingwood are the great Houdini of the AFL and they will play in front of their adoring crowd at the MCG. Sydney have been mixing their form but play well against Collingwood having won their past three games. It might be tighter than expected.

  • Bet: Any other result $2.75

NORTH MELBOURNE $5.75 v ST KILDA $1.13 – 4.40pm Sunday Marvel

The Saints can consolidate their position at the top of the ladder when they play the hapless Roos who have been in dreadful form.

  • Bet: +37.5 points $1.87
