AFL Round 6: Our Best Bets

Round 6 is upon us and the AFL ladder is shaping up. We have our tips for this week’s games below.

FREMANTLE $1.77 v WESTERN BULLDOGS $2.03 – Friday, April 21, 8.10pm Optus Stadium (Perth)

Expect a hard fought match for the Rory Lobb Cup despite the game being between 11th and 14th with both teams on two wins. As a result there’s a bit at stake as whoever loses will start to lose touch with the eight. Fremantle have been disappointing, but the home ground advantage should work for them.

  • Bet: 15 points either way $2.34

PORT ADELAIDE $1.05 v WEST COAST EAGLES $9  – Saturday, 1.45pm Adelaide Oval

West Coast are in free fall having won three of their past 30 matches and their last three losing margins have been 41 points,63 points and 47 points. They have a long injury list. Port have hit form with wins against the Swans and the Bulldogs and they should have an easy hit out here.

  • Bet: $1.80 -47.5 points Port Adelaide

GWS GIANTS $3.50 v BRISBANE LIONS $1.30 – Saturday, 4.35pm Manuka Oval (Canberra)

Brisbane have found their mojo with easy wins over Collingwood and North Melbourne. The Giants are proving plucky in every match and they scraped in for a win against the Hawks last week. They travel to Canberra where they have lost their past seven matches. Brisbane have also defeated them at their past four meetings.

  • Bet: Don’t

GEELONG $1.45 v SYDNEY $2.65 – Saturday, 7.25pm GMHBA Stadium

Geelong supposedly are back in town but are they as belting up bottom sides Hawthorn and the Eagles doesn’t really give a great guide. The Swans had a confidence booster against the Tigers and they play well at Geelong having won twice there before losing at their last appearance. If Dane Rampe is back for the Swans it could be a closer game than expected.

  • Bet: $2.69 15 points either way.

HAWTHORN $3.50 v ADELAIDE CROWS $1.30 – Sunday, 1.10pm University of Tasmanian Stadium Launceston

Adelaide will find themselves in unchartered waters as odds on favourite. They have won their past three impressively but if they treat this as a walk in the park they could be in for a fright.
They have played the Hawks five times at this ground for a solitary win. The Hawks also defeated Adelaide by 32 points last year at Docklands. They have also won five of their past seven at York Park.

  • Bet: Hawthorn $3.50 the win

CARLTON $1.95 v ST KILDA $1.85 – Sunday, 3.20pm Marvel Stadium

The Saints have been a revelation this season, amazingly sitting on top of the ladder after five rounds. They didn’t lose any admirers with their fast finishing defeat at the hands of the Magpies. The Blues looked shell shocked by Adelaide and it’s amazing start. They have been ultra impressive at thier home ground of Docklands with three big wins.

  • Bet: $2.47 15 points either way

GOLD COAST SUNS $1.22 v NORTH MELBOURNE $4 – Sunday, 4.40pm Gold Coast

The Suns were unlucky against Fremantle but they desperately need a second win and they won’t get a better opportunity than against the Roos who they belted twice last season.

  • Bet: Don’t

MELBOURNE $1.33 v RICHMOND $3.20 – Monday, 7.25pm MCG

Richmond’s season is turning into a nightmare and they will cop the Demons on the rebound after their lacklustre display against Essendon. The Tigers look bereft of confidence and the mix of old and new doesn’t seem to be gelling plus they have to cope with a huge injury list. Still any team which has Martin and Bolton can never be ruled out.

  • Bet: $1.87 Richmond +22.5 points

COLLINGWOOD $1.44 v ESSENDON $2.70 – Tuesday, 3.20pm MCG

Are the Bombers back as a force? A win against Collingwood would go a long way to say that’s the case. Collingwood have a dearth of talls while Essendon’s ruckman Sam Draper is improving all the time. This looks a great opportunity for the Bombers and they look great value.

  • BET: Essendon the win at $2.70
