AFL ROUND 3: Our Best Bets

Our analyst is back for round 3 as we look to improve our bank from last week.

COLLINGWOOD ($1.38) V RICHMOND ($2.90) – Friday 7.50pm, MCG

Collingwood have become premiership favourites after two dazzling performances. The Tigers have a host of good players out. The Tigers defeated the Magpies by 27 points last year. They have several players who can worry the Magpies and if Tom Lynch and Shai Bolton fire up they can cause an upset.

• BET: Richmond -16.5 points $1.90.

HAWTHORN $2.41 v NORTH MELBOURNE $1.53 – Saturday, 1.45pm Launceston

Who would have thought that North Melbourne would be an odds on favourite against the Hawks in Tasmania but one team has hit the ground running and other has been poor. Expect the Hawks to be competitive.

GWS GIANTS $2.45 v CARLTON $1.52 – Saturday, 4.35pm Giants Stadium

The Giants were listless last week against the Eagles and they return home where they won their first game against Adelaide. The Blues are in great form and it’s hard to see the Giants containing Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay.

• BET: CARLTON THE WIN $1.52.

ST KILDA $1.70 v ESSENDON $2.08 – Saturday, 7.25pm MCG

The odds don’t seem right for this one. Both teams have won both of their matches. The Saints have been able to choke down their opposition at Marvel Stadium but the MCG could be a different proposition and they have been ravaged by injury. The Bombers finished off strongly against the Suns.

• BET: ESSENDON THE WIN $2.08.

PORT ADELAIDE $1.38 V ADELAIDE $2.90 – Saturday, 7.30pm Adelaide Oval

The Derby is usually an entertaining affair but the Power have dominated in recent times with six wins from the past seven clashes against the Crows. Expect that to continue.

• BET: PORT THE WIN $1.38

GOLD COAST $2.95 v GEELONG CATS $1.37 – Sunday, 3.10pm Gold Coast

This provides an ideal opportunity for the Cats to hit back but they have been ravaged by injuries. The Suns didn’t make the most of their opportunities against Essendon. They should give the Cats a good contest.

• BET: GOLD COAST THE WIN $2.95

MELBOURNE $1.70 v SYDNEY $2.08 – Sunday, 4.20pm MCG

This is one of the matches of the round. Melbourne have a few injury problems while the Swans have hit the ground running. They will be out to erase the nightmare of their last trip to the MCG in the Grand Final.

• BET: 15 points either way $2.52

FREMANTLE $1.43 V WEST COAST – Sunday, 6.20pm PERTH

The Dockers have been disappointing in two matches while the Eagles showed their best form in ages when they ran over the top of the Giants. The match could be tighter than expected.

• BET: Eagles at +15.5 points
