AFL Round 18: Our Insights & Selections

Our analyst is back for another week of AFL and has found some selections for you to follow.

ESSENDON ($2.25) v WESTERN BULLDOGS ($1.65) – Friday, 7.50pm Marvel Stadium

It’s a battle between seventh and eighth and with the finals looming there’s a bit at stake. The Bombers will be looking to bounce back from their poor showing against Geelong while the Bulldogs went down narrowly to Sydney. The Bombers love Marvel but they won’t have anyone to take on Tim English. It promises to be a close one.

RICHMOND ($1.35) v HAWTHORN ($3.25) – Saturday, 1.45pm MCG

The Tigers have been in good form winning five of their past six matches. They were a little lack lustre against the Eagles but they return to the MCG where they invariably play well. The Hawks are off a win against North and have been competitive in most matches. The Tigers had an easy win against the Hawks late last year and although they don’t have Lynch, Short and Nankervis they should still prevail.

CARLTON $1.01 v WEST COAST EAGLES ($15) – Saturday, 2.10pm Marvel

The Blues have regained their mojo with three easy wins and again have a chance for a big win. The Eagles were better against the Tigers at home but they tend to lose their form completely when on the road.

BRISBANE ($1.47) v GEELONG ($2.70) – Saturday, 4.35pm Gabba

Two of the legitimate premiership contenders go toe to toe. The Cats toyed with the Bombers in possibly their best performance of the year at home but take on the Lions at the Gabba. The Lions though can only boast two wins over the Cats from their last 15 clashes. This should be a thriller.

FREMANTLE ($2.15) v SYDNEY ($1.70) – Saturday, 7.40pm Optus Stadium

The Dockers return to their own deck after being blitzed by the Magpies. They are in poor form but they will find this easier. The Swans last three matches have produced a draw against Geelong, a close loss to Richmond and a narrow win over the Bulldogs. Sydney have won four out of their seven games at Optus Stadium.

PORT ADELAIDE ($1.95) v COLLINGWOOD ($1.85) – Saturday, 7.40pm Adelaide Oval

Forget about Port’s loss to Carlton last week as this is the match they have been set for. They will be out to prove they are legitimate premiership contenders and there’s no better test than against the Magpies, who thrashed them earlier in the year at the MCG. They have only lost one match at home this year and will love welcoming Collingwood to their home ground for the first time in six years.

GWS GIANTS $1.60 v GOLD COAST SUNS $2.35 – Sunday, 1.10pm Manuka Oval

The Giants have been on fire in recent weeks with six wins and a six point loss from their past seven games. Against that they play at Manuka Oval which has proven to be its kryptonite as they have lost their past nine matches there. The Suns played their best football for the year defeating St Kilda. Another close game beckons

MELBOURNE ($1.34) v ADELAIDE ($3.30)  – Sunday, 3.20pm MCG

The Demons are coming off their heroic last minute victory against the Lions. Will they be flat after a big win or are they ready to roll into September. Adelaide haven’t win at the MCG since 2017 and that’s not likely to change.

ST KILDA ($1.15) v NORTH MELBOURNE ($5.50) – Sunday, 4.40pm Marvel Stadium

Although the Saints have been struggling in recent weeks, they get an opportunity for an easy kill against the Kangaroos and help them stay in the eight.
