AFL Round 18: Our Insights & Selections
July 14, 2023
Our analyst is back for another week of AFL and has found some selections for you to follow.
MELBOURNE $1.77 v BRISBANE LIONS $2.05 –Â Friday 7.50pm MCG
Melbourne returned to the winner’s list after a fortuitous win against the Saints who were hampered by injury. Brisbane have won their past four matches but return to the MCG after they capitulated to Hawthorn in the second half in its previous match there which took their record to 17 losses and two wins from the past 19 appearances at the ground. Significantly their last win came in a semi-final against Melbourne last year.
- The bet: Brisbane Lions the win at $2.05

COLLINGWOOD $1.08 v FREMANTLE $8 –Â Saturday 1.45pm MCG
One of the powerhouses of the competition Collingwood play one of the most disappointing teams for the season in the Dockers. The Dockers usually play well at the MCG and have to respond to last week’s embarrassing display against Carlton. This could be tighter than expected,
- The bet: Dockers +40.5 points at $1.90

GOLD COAST $1.60 v ST KILDA SAINTS $2.35 –Â Saturday 2.10PM Gold Coast
The sacked coach bounce theory has paid off once already this season with the Tigers winning when they replaced Andrew McQualter. Look for the Suns’ interim coach Steven King to kick off with a win. The Suns were great in the first half against one of the benchmark teams in the competition Port Adelaide at home before they were blown away in the third quarter. The Saints were gallant against the Demons but lost some key manpower. They have won their past eight against the Suns and 17 from 21 in total.
- The bet: Tribet 15 points either way $2.70

CARLTON $2.25 V PORT ADELAIDE $1.65 –Â Saturday 4.35pm Marvel Stadium
The Blues have returned to form and back in the race for the eight with wins against the Suns, the Hawks and the Dockers. They come up against Port Adelaide who are going for 15 wins in a row. The Blues have only defeated one team in the top eight in seven matches this season.
- The Bet: Tribet 15 points either way $2.70

GEELONG $1.28 v ESSENDON $3.70 –Â Saturday 7.25pm GMHBA Stadium
The Bombers boast the same record of one win from seven games against top eight teams as the Blues do. The Bombers have been consistent and almost toppled Port Adelaide two matches ago. The Cats are giving indications they are back to their best and play at their fortress which gives them a big advantage.
- The Bet: Don’t

ADELAIDE $1.42 v GWS GIANTS $2.90 –Â Saturday 7.40pm Adelaide Oval
This is a key battle in the race for the eight. The Crows eight victories have been at Adelaide Oval where they have only tasted defeat twice for the season. The Giants are on the move having won five of their past six matches. This promises to be a close one. The Giants look nice value.
- The Bet: Tribet 15 points either way $2.90

NORTH MELBOURNE v HAWTHORN –Â Sunday 1.10pm Marvel Stadium
Despite it being a clash between 16th and 17th the Hawks appear to be a fair way in front of the Kangaroos who have lost their past 15 matches. The Hawks defeated the Roos by 16 points in Round 3 and can repeat that effort.
- The Bet: Hawks -15.5 points at $1.90

WEST COAST EAGLES $7.50 v RICHMOND $1.09 –Â Sunday 4.40pm Optus Stadium
The Eagles gave an indication of a return to form when they played at home two matches ago when they went down to the Saints by eight points. They were then walloped by Brisbane by 81 points which is exactly what the Tigers lost to the Lions by the week before. With the Tigers needing a percentage boost they will be all out to reprise their 109 point win when they last played in Perth in early 2022.
- The Bet: Richmond -41.5 points at $1.90
