AFL: Dew Dumped By The Suns
July 12, 2023
THE brutality of coaching in the AFL was on display on Tuesday morning when the Gold Coast unceremoniously dumped their coach Stuart Dew.
Despite Dew having 18 months to go on his contract they decided the time was up for the coach of the Suns.
Dew might have thought his tenure was safe at half time of what proved to be his last game against Port Adelaide as his team was in front.

Unfortunately for Dew’s career Port Adelaide swamped the Suns in the third quarter.
Dew’s has coached the Suns for the past five seasons and hasn’t made the eight.
Dew is coaching an inexperienced team who invariably lose players at the end of each season so it’s not an easy gig. In fact no one has coached the Suns into a finals series in its 13 years of existsence.
It’s hard not to think that Damian Hardwick’s decision to quit Richmond five weeks ago hasn’t played a role in this decision.
As for Round 17 it only proved again how well the top three teams, Collingwood, Port Adelaide and Brisbane are playing and they are a cut above the rest.
Essendon moved a step closer to securing a finals berth when they defeated Adelaide. If they can defeat Geelong on their home deck it would wrap it up.
Carlton and Richmond are finding form and could challenge for the eight.
