A great field has been put together for the first running of the $1m Golden Gift so form analyst Dean Watling has assessed the trial & race times of all runners to give us his thoughts and selections.

1. Tanker

Outstanding win on debut by the Pride of Dubai colt, coming off a hot speed to put 2L on the rest  of the field. That was a 1000m race where the overall time was 58.13 and he ran home in the  L600 – 34.08. Barrier one looks very tricky but Ben Allen defiantly has an opinion of the horse  traveling to Sydney to ride him in his latest trial. Solid hit out where he was home in L600 – 34.15  over the 745m. Top chance.

Has draw wide here. The P & P Snowden colt look solid in his trials leading into his debut run but was no match for the turn of foot of See You Soon. Winkers go on now and could see a sharp  improvement.

Eye-catching run in debut, had to weave an unsuited passage in the straight and come off heels at a 200m. Once he found clean air motored to the line and recorded the best closing 600,400,200m of the race. They clocked for the 1000m affair – 57.84 and L200 – 11.24, which was  13th fastest of the day. It will be running on and in the finish.

4. Itzhot

First start was very solid when going to the line with 6 other horses. Struggled to tack on in the  1000m race. Cut the corner and looked the winner when winding up at the 100m. Ran into back of horses and i believe would have won with clean air. The horse that finish second ran 4th to Tanker on debut. Could be a smokey.

58k purchase, tear away leader in 2nd trial when showing strong improvement. Looked to struggle in the Victory Vein and will need to improve.

Sired by the 4 time G1 winner Criterion, tells us he will love to get over further later on. Show enough speed and a great turn of foot in trial to be prominent here. Blinkers on in first trial and blew them away. Sat off them in second trial and was brought to the outside, ask for an effort and responded swiftly to win the trial in a few strides. 905m – L600 – 34.90, was an average time for the morning but take note was only asked for an effort at the 100m and wasn’t asked for entire. Blinkers stay on race day. Will be right there.

Choisir colt who cost 80k now trained by the Bjorn Baker. Was pushed along in the first trial beating Tommy Gun and Endorse. Change to the Baker yard and bolted in next trial, winning by 6L pushed along. 905m – L600m – 33.80, 1 second faster than Blaze A Trail on the same morning. Maps beautiful in the first 4.

A $160k purchase by Smart Missile, was 1 L off Blaze A Trial in only trial. Looked to be a beautiful big colt with a great stride. Struggled to quicken when Blaze A Trail went straight past him. Think he will be suited over a longer trip. Maps well.

Wow what a debut by this French sired homebred. Sat last the rail in a small field, crazed around them and when Jean said go the race was gone in a couple of strides. Look above average to the eye and the data backed it up. Fastest last 800,400,200m of the entire meeting. Broke 11 seconds for her last two splits and sizzled home L600 – 32.89. Map is only issue if she can sit off the back of Gravina and get a nice tow into it she’s is the one to beat at a massive price of $10. Keen.

Winkers go on first time for $500k I Am Invincible filly, loved her last 200m knuckled down and gave them something to chase. See You Soon ran over her late but wasn’t much between them. Do note they went very slow in that race so entitled to kick. Drawn perfect and looks to sit in behind hot speed. Great each-way odds.

$1m I Am Invincible filly, debut looked to be disappointing in the run but they did crawl along and there was an inquiry into her performance. Forgive for mine and can bounce back according. Trial was superb leading into debut look for similar run. Good each-way chance.

Second to Close To Me in the trial leading into debut where she struck trouble at the 400m mark and was knocked out of the race. Very hard to access. Since has trailed since and was solid hitting the line nice from back in the field. 3.3 L off first in 4th place L600 – 33.77 stacked up great against older/proven horses. Needs to improve.

$400k Hinchinbrook filly, half-sister to G1 winner Egyptian Symbol and out of a G1 winning dam. First trial was solid in the sort 6 going over the 800m. Second trial she went to a new level. Sat off them and stormed down the outside to come right over the top. Looks to be a big solid filly. Trial was over the 905m where they got home in – 54.40 and L600 – 34.50, she went 1 scene faster the Blaze A Trail and had gears to give. $23 looks a ridiculous price. Smokey.

Beautiful bread Lonhro colt from the Godolphin operation. Trail was impressive 2nd to the favorite in this race Tanker. Sat midfield and went throw his gears swiftly. Only the 1 trial leading in so may need the run. Nice chance now he gets a start. Monitor betting.

I Am Invincible filly whose dam was a multiple stakes winner in America. Blinkers go on first time here. Only trial was at Wyong when looked to be doing it well. Some ability and winner of that trial ran 2nd on debut in an Mdn class.
