Lazzura and Tommy Berry went forward from the jump and held on to win the Group 2 The Invitation (1400m) for fillies and mares at Randwick, beating $71 chance Infancy by half a length with Verona Rose a short head away third. Here’s what the jockeys said.
It is always important to hear what the jockeys say after the race, as you can forgive a horse’s bad run or even find a winner next start, so head to the post-race comments below.
FIRESTORM (Tyler Schiller) – 12th
A bit plain. She has probably lost the zest for it. But I still felt like the last 100m she was getting home. Possibly better up in trip. Other than possibly going to the breeding barn.
SUPER SMINK (Tom Sherry) – 11th
Probably would have liked to see her hit the line a little bit better.
ARABIAN ROSE (Tiffani Brooker) – 10th
Never got a clear crack at them. Disappointing but proves she had something there and well and truly up to this class.
MODELLA (Andrew Adkins) – 9th
Getting harder and harder to make up ground. She’s a horse who would probably enjoy getting her toe into the track. A few little things going against her.

TUILERIES (Zac Lloyd) – 8th
A bit frustrating. I think she is going well. Just can’t draw a barrier. Track just wasn’t suiting her today.
PERFUMIST (Regan Bayliss) – 7th
A good honest run. I think she is looking forward to getting back out over the mile.
STYLISH (Tim Clark) – 6th
Had a beautiful run behind the speed. Just felt the firm track.
IDLE FLYER (Jason Collett) – 5th
She was quick away but a couple kicked up under me. Had a wide run. She came again late though considering the run she had.

GERRINGONG (Nash Rawiller) – 4th
She was good. Raced awkwardly, quite tight first 50m then for 100m. She got into a good rhythm after that. I think what happened early made it hard to finish off to the best of her ability.
VERONA ROSE (Kerrin McEvoy) – 3rd
Really good run. Gave a good kick. Winner was too good.
INFANCY (Dylan Gibbons) – 2nd
I don’t know what to say. She was all heart. She has run a nice second. Off to be a mum soon but keeps trying.
LAZZURA (Tommy Berry) – 1st
I still had no idea what I was going to do going to the gates. I’ll ride her how she jumps and she pinged the lids. At the end of the day it’s not the way to ride her but she’s the best horse in the race. Good horses overcome adversity and that is what she did today. Full credit to the team.
This race has been a race they looked at for a long time. Ricky the owner was trying to book me five weeks out. He was obviously very keen on her. A good effort.
I got a really easy time mid-race and that sort of helped her in the end there. She is a lot better horse with cover. Well done to Ricky, Ricky Jnr and Chris and the whole team have done a great job. I wish my old man a happy birthday. I’ll get emotional so won’t talk anymore.
