2026 Angst Stakes Review: What The Jockeys Said

- Sportingbase 2026 Angst Stakes Review: What The Jockeys Said Image
Unleeshing and Jason Collett came from a long way back to win the Group 3 Asahi Super Dry Angst Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, beating stablemate Pillow Fight by three-quarters of a length in a Bjorn Baker quinella, with Vivy Air third. Here’s what the jockeys said.

It is always important to hear what the jockeys say after the race, as you can forgive a horse’s bad run or even find a winner next start, so head to the post-race comments below.

STARPHISTOCATED (Chad Schofield) – 10th

She is not going well.

SNITZEL DANCER (Kerrin McEvoy) – 9th

She travelled well. Likes to get a bit of room and we weren’t able to get that today. Better than that.

TRANSCEND (Tommy Berry) – 8th

Just didn’t handle the occasion today.

KNOBELAS (Dylan Gibbons) – 7th

Plan was to get her to relax. She did a good job of that. Just when they first quickened, she let them get right away from her. Was making that ground up again late. In the end a really good run.

CHURCHILL’S CHOICE (Regan Bayliss) – 6th

Only moderately run during the middle stages. She travelled well but when they amped it up from the 600m, she hit that flat spot. Race was over before she hit the line.

THE MONA LISA (Andrew Calder) – 5th

Had a lovely run in transit. When the leader quickened at the 600m, it left me a bit flat footed and she kept grinding away.

POLYMNIA (Zac Lloyd) – 4th

I feel bad for her. She is absolutely flying. Just can’t draw a barrier. It is costing her races.

VIVY AIR (James McDonald) – 3rd

Just one paced in the straight.

PILLOW FIGHT (Jamie Melham) – 2nd

Massive run. Just found one better on the day. Very genuine horse.

UNLEESHING (Jason Collett) – 1st

I wanted to jump on her last start, but she had a very light weight, and Rachel (King) had done a lot of work on her.

I was fortunate enough to fill the saddle today, and she’s done well. She had to come from a long way back. They took off before straightening and I thought, I’m in a bit of trouble, but I knew I had a good horse under me.

The pace was enough during the middle sections, and I was in a good rhythm. Previous times I’ve ridden her, I’ve had her up travelling too strong. Today was just comfortable, flowing. A really good win.
