2023 NFL Week 1 Preview: Our Expert Tips & Staking Plan
September 7, 2023
We are back! The NFL Season is finally here! Things are going to be slightly different this season. We will have a full preview earlier in the week with no picks, so then on Sunday I can just make the selections. So there will be a lot less written content in these posts, but will still have all the expert picks in them.
For week one I am getting these selections in a bit earlier. There is a lot fewer moving parts for week one as we have had so long to prepare with lines being out for months. But in future weeks these should be out early on Sunday.
Check out this week’s full previews: https://thesportingbase.com/2023-nfl-week-1-preview-breaking-down-every-game/
I will likely be adding some more picks before the games so make sure to check back.
Detroit Lions @ Kansas City Chiefs
I try not to make a habit of picking Thursday night games, but this one feels too good to pass up. Everyone is on the Lions it seems. But these games historically favour the home team massively in the season opener, and few teams start as well as Kansas City. I would wait until the last minute to place this though as I think the line moves further down when Kelce is officially ruled out.

Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons
The Panthers just have so many question marks around them. The Falcons are far from a sure thing, but they should be well coached and with Bijan Robinson, they can ride him to this win.

AUS USER BETS
- 2 units ($200) Falcons -3.5 @ 1.90 with TopSport
Houston Texans @ Baltimore Ravens
I think there will be some teething issues for the Ravens and the new offence. And I think the Texans are going to be competitive this season, even if they do not win too many. So 10 points just feels too big for me. It really is that simple.
USA USER BETS
- 1 unit ($100) Texans + 10 @ -110 with BetUS
AUS USER BETS
- 1 unit ($100) Texans + 10 @ -1.91 with TopSport
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts
I love Anthony Richardson as a player to watch. He will be exciting, make some big plays and have some great highlights. But I do not believe in him as an NFL prospect. I think the hype has got too much and with Jonathan Taylor on the sidelines looking for a trade, his task is even more difficult.
The Jaguars are a good team and with Trevor Lawrence looking better and better, they can win this one comfortably.

AUS USER BETS
- 2 units ($200) Jaguars -4.5 @ 1.89 with TopSport
Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets
I am really starting to believe in this Jets team. Rodgers should make the offence so much better, but it is the defence that could be truly elite. We have seen how a strong defensive front can work for the 49ers and this defence has the chance to be the best in the league.
I like the Bills but the atmosphere should be incredible at MetLife for this one.
USA USER BETS

AUS USER BETS
- 2 units ($200) Jets +2.5 @ 1.93 with TopSport
