Field is set for the 2022 ATP World Finals

We now know the eight tennis players who will participate at the 2022 ATP World Tour Finals in Turin, Italy from November 13-20. Two players who had the chance of still qualifying for the event were both eliminated in the second round of the 2022 Paris Indoor Tournament, which is taking place this week in France.

The two players I was referring to in the last paragraph were Taylor Fritz of the United States and Hubert Hurkacz of Poland. Fritz lost to Gilles Simon of France in the second round in Paris on Wednesday, while Hurkacz lost to Holger Rune of Denmark, 7-5, 6-1 in their first career head-to-head meeting.

The fact that Hurkacz and Fritz were unable to make a deep run in the final ATP Masters 1000 series event of 2022, confirmed the entry of Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada and Andrey Rublev of Russia in Italy. They will joined by Spaniards Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, Russian Daniil Medvedev, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Norway’s Casper Ruud.

Seriously. What Auger-Aliassime has accomplished on the indoor hard courts over this month is stunning. He began the month with two ATP Tour 250 title wins in Florence, Italy, and Antwerp, Belgium before recording his second ATP 500 title of 2022 as he won the final of the Swiss Indoors, 6-3, 7-5, over Rune.

Auger-Aliassime is continuing his fall hard court excellence in Paris this week. He has already qualified for the quarterfinals on Friday after a second round win over Mikael Ymer of Sweden, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 on Wednesday, and a third round win over Gilles Simon of France, 6-1, 6-3 on Thursday. For Simon, it was his final ATP tournament as he announced his retirement at the end of the year in May.
