Former NFL linebacker Parys Haralson dies at age 37

According to Jason Owens of Yahoo! Sports, former National Football League defensive end Parys Haralson passed away at the age of 37 on Monday. The cause of death has not yet been released.

Haralson played nine seasons in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints from 2006 to 2014. He played 86 games over seven seasons with the 49ers from 2006 to 2012, and then 32 games over two seasons with the Saints from 2013 to 2014.

In 118 games, Haralson had 275 combined tackles (190 solo tackles and 85 tackles), 49 tackles for a loss, 63 quarterback hits, 28 sacks, five pass deflections, three forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. The three forced fumbles came with the 49ers in the 2011 NFL season.

Haralson played his college football with the University of Tennessee, and graduated with a degree in sociology while playing for the Volunteers. He was then drafted in the fifth round, 140th overall, in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Both of Haralson’s former teams won this past weekend to begin the 2021 NFL season. The Saints clobbered the Green Bay Packers 38-3, while the 49ers squeaked past the Lions 41-33. San Francisco once led 38-10 in the game before the Detroit comeback which made things interesting.

In other Saints news, there is a coronavirus outbreak among the Saints organization. There are currently eight Saints employees who have coronavirus. Of the eight, six are coaches, one is a player and one is a nutritionist according to ESPN. The player is Michael Thomas, who is out with an ankle injury. According to nfl.com, all six coaches and the nutritionist have been vaccinated, but we do not know if all of them have been double vaccinated. Saints head coach Sean Payton has already had coronavirus.
