Jets sign wide receiver Chris Hogan from the Panthers

The New York Jets tried to improve their offense on Sunday by coming to terms with wide receiver Chris Hogan of Ramapo, New Jersey. According to Dakota Randall of NESN, the financial details of the contract have not yet been released.

Hogan missed over half the season in 2019 with a left knee injury. In limited action in Carolina, the veteran wideout only had eight catches for 67 yards, one kickoff return for 21 yards, and four punt returns for 20 yards. Hogan also only started one game all season long, and it came at the end of the regular season, in a 42-10 Panthers loss to the New Orleans Saints on December 29.

Prior to his 2019 season with the Panthers, Hogan played three seasons with the Buffalo Bills from 2013 to 2015, and three additional seasons with the New England Patriots from 2016 to 2018. In 2016 with the Patriots, Hogan led the NFL with 17.9 yards per catch, and won his first of two Super Bowls. He would also win the championship with New England in 2018.

There is no doubt that Hogan was able to find magic on the football field with Tom Brady. Now he will try to develop chemistry with Jets quarterback Sam Darnold. In seven NFL seasons, Hogan has 202 catches for 2677 yards and 18 touchdowns.

In New York, Hogan is added to a receiving corps that includes Breshad Perriman of Lithonia, Georgia, and Jamison Crowder of Monroe, North Carolina. Crowder will enter his second season with the Jets after four seasons with the Washington Football Team. Last year he had 78 catches for 833 yards and six touchdowns. Like Hogan, Perriman also joins the Jets as a free agent. In 2019 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Perriman had 36 catches for 645 yards and six touchdowns.
