EPL Week 29 Preview: Stats, Insights & Everything You Need To Know About Your Team’s Chances

March 1, 2019

By Lindsay

It’s a massive weekend of Premier League derbies with two of the biggest rivalries in England set to do battle. There are just ten rounds remaining and the battles for the title, Champions League spots and relegation could all go in very different ways and this weekend could provide yet another shakeup.

TOTTENHAM VS ARSENAL – SATURDAY 2 MARCH, 12:30PM, WEMBLEY STADIUM

The North London Derby doesn’t carry the same stigma as a Manchester Derby, a Merseyside Derby or perhaps even just United vs Liverpool, but it doesn’t mean the hate doesn’t run thick and it’s always a terrific fixture. Arsenal hold bragging rights from the last time that these clubs met in the Premier League, but it was Spurs who recorded the most-recent win in the derby after knocking Arsenal out of whatever that stupid third competition is that nobody cares about.

Did You Know?

Tottenham

Only once in their top-flight history have Spurs won three consecutive home matches against the Gunners (between January 1960 and August 1961).

Arsenal

Arsenal are looking to complete a Premier League double over rival Spurs for only the fourth time, also doing so in 2004/05, 2007/08 and 2013/14.

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in 12 of Arsenal’s last 13 EPL away matches.
  • Harry Kane has scored at least one goal in seven of Tottenham’s last eight EPL matches against Arsenal
  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in each of Arsenal’s last five EPL matches as an away underdog.

TIP: Tottenham

BOURNEMOUTH VS MANCHESTER CITY – SUNDAY 3 MARCH, 3:00PM, VITALITY STADIUM

Able to return to the top of the Premier League table at least momentarily with Liverpool playing on Sunday, Manchester City will look to topple Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. City maintained its position one point in arrears of the Reds through a 1-0 triumph over West Ham on Wednesday; Sergio Aguero’s 59th-minute penalty proved the difference. As a result, the Sky Blues ride a streak of four consecutive Premier League wins and have an extremely favourable upcoming schedule.

Meanwhile, a 5-1 annihilation at the hands of Arsenal means Bournemouth now holds a disappointing 1-1-10 W/D/L record from its last 12 top-flight fixtures as an underdog.

Did You Know?

Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth are looking for a first league victory over Manchester City in 14 attempts.

City

Manchester City have a 100 per cent win record against the Cherries, scoring 24 goals and conceding just three. City’s seven victories is the best in Premier League history and joint-best in top-flight history along with Brighton & Hove Albion against Wolverhampton Wanderers (also seven wins out of seven).

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in each of Manchester City’s last 12 EPL day matches.
  • Manchester City has won five of its last seven EPL matches to nil.
  • Sergio Aguero has scored eight goals in Manchester City’s last five EPL matches.

TIP: City

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION VS HUDDERSFIELD TOWN – SUNDAY 3 MARCH, 3:00PM, AMEX STADIUM

In a week full of derbies, perhaps this one should be tabbed as the “Aussie Derby” considering two of the Socceroos most influential players will take to the pitch here. Huddersfield is celebrating its first win since late November and as they prepare to face an out of form Brighton side, there is every chance they could make it two in a row here.

One plus side of that victory is it means they will not be the co-worst team in Premier League history topping the 2007/2008 Derby side who managed a meagre 11 points. Of course that win was not enough to jump off the bottom of the table, a place they have been anchored to since the festive period.

Brighton has picked up a grand total of two points in the 2019 calendar year so there’s certainly a case to be made for Huddersfield here, especially with Mooy returning to health.

Did You Know?

Brighton

Brighton are looking to avoid recording consecutive home defeats in the Premier League for the first time.

Huddersfield

Huddersfield Town are looking for a first Premier League goal in March at the sixth attempt.

Betting Insights

  • Huddersfield has lost 10 of its last 11 EPL day matches.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has failed to hit in seven of Huddersfield’s last eight EPL matches as an underdog.
  • Glenn Murray has scored three goals in Brighton’s last four EPL matches as a home favourite.

TIP: Brighton

BURNLEY VS CRYSTAL PALACE – SUNDAY 3 MARCH, 3:00PM, TURF MOOR

Both clubs were midweek losers, but this match between Burnley and Palace looks like being one of the better contests in Week 29 and a case is there to be made for each. The Clarets pulled off a huge upset over Spurs last weekend but were the unlucky club to catch Newcastle on a day that they actually put it all together. Palace were comfortably beaten by United last start, but absolutely no shame in that currently and they’ll be confident of responding with a W this time around.

Did You Know?

Burnley

Burnley have defeated three London clubs in their four-match unbeaten PL run at Turf Moor. The Clarets have overcome West Ham United, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur, with their solitary draw against Southampton.

Palace

Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha has had a hand in five goals in his last five Premier League matches (four goals, one assist).

Betting Insights

  • Crystal Palace has won only four of its last 33 EPL away matches following a loss.
  • The home team has won four of the last five EPL matches between Burnley and Crystal Palace.
  • The ‘Over 3.5 Goals’ market has hit in five of Crystal Palace’s last seven EPL away matches.

TIP: Palace

MANCHESTER UNITED VS SOUTHAMPTON – SUNDAY 3 MARCH, 3:00PM, OLD TRAFFORD

One of the big reasons Manchester United is back in the top four race is they are managing to beat the teams they are expecting to beat.

During the week United picked up another three points with a win over Crystal Palace and they enter their clash with Southampton as clear favourites… as you might expect.

The Saints moved out of the relegation zone with a midweek win and could stay above the fray even with a loss here as the trailing pack all have games this weekend that could be considered as “losable”.

A win for United here and if Tottenham beat Arsenal, they could find themselves back in the top four for just the second week all season.

Did You Know?

United

In Premier League history, Man Utd have come from behind to win eight matches against Southampton, a joint-record in the competition. The Red Devils have also overturned a deficit eight times to win against Newcastle, as have Chelsea against Sunderland.

Southampton

Southampton have drawn their last two league matches against Manchester United; they haven’t avoided defeat in three consecutive fixtures against them since May 1989 (five matches).

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in each of Manchester United’s last six EPL matches as a home favourite.
  • Marcus Rashford has scored a goal in four of his last five EPL starting appearances with Manchester United as a favourite.
  • Paul Pogba has scored at least one goal in each of Manchester United’s last four EPL matches as a home favourite.

TIP: United

WOLVERHAMPTON VS CARDIFF – SUNDAY 3 MARCH, 3:00PM, MOLINEUX STADIUM

Wolves are fast becoming Newcastle, in terms of being the most untrustworthy team in the league from a betting perspective but surely they’ll be too good for Cardiff this week. Two-consecutive draws were franked when Wolves dropped their lollies and three points at home to the last-placed Huddersfield, but they’ll be tackling a club that has been flogged at its two most-recent appearances.

Did You Know?

Wolves

Wolves have lost five of their last seven league matches against the Bluebirds (W2), losing the reverse fixture at Cardiff City Stadium in November.

Cardiff

Cardiff have won two of their last four away Premier League fixtures (L2), as many as in their first 28 in the competition (W2 D6 L20).

Betting Insights

  • There have been three or more goals scored during the second half in two of Cardiff’s last three EPL matches as an underdog.
  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in six of Cardiff’s last seven EPL matches as an underdog.
  • Raul Jimenez has scored a goal in four of Wolverhampton’s last six EPL day matches.

TIP: Wolves

WEST HAM VS NEWCASTLE – SUNDAY 3 MARCH, 3:00PM, LONDON STADIUM

Looking to maintain a five-match undefeated run at the London Stadium across all competitions, West Ham will host Newcastle on Saturday evening. The Hammers didn’t play in London last time out, instead putting up a valiant effort during a 1-0 loss at title-chasing Manchester City. Elsewhere, the Magpies were in action at home, with their 2-0 triumph over Burnley marking back-to-back successes at St. James’ Park by the same scoreline.

Newcastle hasn’t been quite as successful away from home in recent times, with its last victory in an EPL away fixture coming back in December against Huddersfield. The Magpies were similarly unsuccessful when they last faced West Ham, falling 3-0 at St. James’ Park as Javier Hernandez netted a double.

Did You Know?

West Ham

West Ham United, 3-0 winners against Newcastle in the reverse fixture, are looking to complete a league double over the Magpies for the first time since the 1998/99 season.

Newcastle

No side have lost more Premier League away matches in London than Newcastle (74, level with Everton).

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in each of West Ham’s last seven EPL Week 29 matches.
  • Newcastle United has won only three of its last 43 EPL night matches.
  • Michail Antonio has been the last goal-scorer in each of West Ham’s last two EPL home matches.

TIP: West Ham

WATFORD VS LEICESTER CITY – SUNDAY 3 MARCH, 12:00PM, VICARAGE ROAD

Go back seven days and Watford are looking pretty impressive after crushing Cardiff 5-1, flash forward to today and they are coming off a 5-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool.

Leicester will welcome Brendan Rodgers onto the touchline for the first time after their midweek victory over Brighton.

The Foxes have won three of the last four games between these sides and have only conceded two goals in that time as well, both in Watford’s lone victory.

Did You Know?

Watford

Since Watford’s return to the Premier League in 2015/16, meetings between the Hornets and Leicester have featured more penalty goals than any other fixture in the competition (five).

Leicester

New Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has failed to win his first league match in charge of the previous four teams he’s managed in English football (W0 D2 L2).

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Both Teams To Score’ market has hit in 80% of Leicester’s games this season.
  • Both teams have a 60% hit rate when it comes to the over 2.5 goals market.

TIP: Leicester

FULHAM VS CHELSEA – MONDAY 4 MARCH, 2:05PM, CRAVEN COTTAGE

A London Derby for the ages… is like to materialise when Spurs and Arsenal do battle, but certainly not when Fulham hosts Chelsea. The coaching reins could legitimately be handed over to Kepa Arrizabalaga and Chelsea would win this match at a canter.

Did You Know?

Fulham

Fulham have lost all nine of their Premier League London derby matches this season. They could become the first team in top-flight history to lose 10 such matches in a single campaign.

Chelsea

Half of Chelsea winger Pedro’s Premier League goals this season have come in London derbies (four out of eight).

Betting Insights

  • Both teams average 2.4 goals against this season.
  • Both teams average over 3 total match goals.
  • Clashes at Craven Cottage average a total of 3 goals.

TIP: Chelsea

EVERTON VS LIVERPOOL – MONDAY 4 MARCH, 4:15PM, GOODISON PARK

They are certainly daring to dream on Merseyside, after what feels like an eternity, the Toffees are dreaming of their first win over Liverpool since 2010. Of course with Liverpool suddenly finding form during the week, that dream probably went from “optimistic” to “blind faith”. Liverpool haven’t conceded a goal in three Premier League games with West Ham the last team to score against them.

The last few meetings at Goodison Park haven’t exactly been classics with every game there since 2013 having two or fewer goals.

Did You Know?

Everton

Everton are winless in their last 18 encounters with Liverpool across all competitions (D9 L9), their longest winless run against the Reds.

Liverpool

Despite remaining unbeaten in their last 16 league meetings with the Toffees, Liverpool are looking to do the double over Everton for just the third time in the last eight seasons (also in 2011/12 and 2016/17).

Betting Insights

  • Liverpool has averaged a winning margin of 4 goals this season.
  • Both teams average over 2 total match goals this season.

TIP: Liverpool
