Dana White Encourages Holloway To Step Up To Lightweight

Following his dominant title defence against Brian Ortega, UFC President Dana White has expressed his desire to see Featherweight Champion Max Holloway step up to 155 pounds to take on much tougher opposition in the Lightweight division.

In a division that holds the likes of Khabib, Connor McGregor, Tony Ferguson, Dustin Poirier, Kevin Lee and Nate Diaz there are plenty of mouthwatering match-ups that Holloway could work his way through.

“Max is a grown man and we need to talk,” White said. “But I’d like to see Max go to ‘55 now. I think that the guy’s 27 going on 28 years old, he’s in the prime of his life, never looked better. Continues to improve with every single fight that he’s in and I think he’s done everything he can do at ‘45.

“Why keep cutting that weight? I think there’s some big things for him at ‘55.”

When questioned if there was anyone in particular he’d like to see ‘The Blessed One’ take on, White was hard pressed on deciding upon one.

“If Holloway goes to ‘55, everybody in the top-five is a fun fight for him,” White said.

The ball seems to be in Holloway’s court on this one. With approval from the President it would seem he wouldn’t be pressured to defend his Featherweight title anytime soon.

Would you like to see Holloway as a Lightweight at the expense of the Featherweight division?

Who would be his ideal first opponent?
