Belgravia Stakes day at Ascot on what is a really deep card with plenty of cerise and white. Rail goes out 7m, track Good 4 and the weather (shock) will turn it on again. Big easterly in play usually means it will favour those on-pace but keen to keep a close eye on that early in the day.

Em Tee Aye:

Was really impressed by the 1st up win when I gave him not a whole lot. On this day the A1 ground was clearly in the middle of the track with 3/5 races over the sprint courses won by horses worse than midfield on straightening who came down the middle of the track, adding more merit to his performance when able to lead and grind out a very gutsy win on the rail. Although drawn awkwardly here on paper, there isn’t a whole abundance of speed engaged, and an aggressive McGruddy early I feel should be able to land him in the first 4 in running. The 3 year olds are beating up on the older horses at the moment and if he can land on, or just in behind the speed from the wide draw, I think he’s going to be pretty hard to beat here at a nice price.

Naughty By Nature:

Won’t be losing on Naughty By Nature. Desperately unlucky 1st up when absolutely bolting for a run in the straight, and I mean bolting, couldn’t have had less of a crack at them, I reckon she is going to be flying this prep. Draws much more economical in 2 here for the Hyphen and the rise up to the 1400m 2nd up is another big positive for her. Runs a really big race here and can position up closer from the draw.

Happy to lose on this girl if the Clairvoyance brilliance train continues to roll on (highly likely it does) but I think she could also be a star and may be able to hand the G1 filly in the making her first blemish. The 1st up run over the unsuitable 1000m when finishing behind Clairvoyance was nothing less than huge. Was slow out of the gates and lost 2L right off the bat, trapped 3 back the fence in the run as a result and was badly held up for a crack at them until 150m to go, jumping out of the ground to finish only 2L adrift of Clairvoyance in 2nd. The map is a little sticky I won’t lie, more than likely 3 back the fence again but with some nice horses in front of her, she should be able to get some sort of toe in as they fan on straightening and make a serious race of it, just hoping she isn’t too far off them. Clairvoyance has had a set-back undoubtedly with the bar plate going on, so if she was ever going to be rolled, today could be the day? Definitely worth a spec.
