A-League Week 18 Preview: Stats, Insights & Everything You Need To Know

February 8, 2019

By Lindsay

With a big weekend of A-League action ahead we have everything you need to know about your team’s chances including stats, insights, did you know facts & everything else you need to know.

BRISBANE ROAR VS SYDNEY FC – FRIDAY 8 FEBRUARY, 7:50PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

Roar

Last 5 Matches: LLDDL
Ladder Position: 9th
Goal Difference: -17 (GF 21, GA 38)

Sydney

Last 5 Matches: WWWLW
Ladder Position: 3rd
Goal Difference: +12 (GF 31, GA 19)

Brisbane went from one of the biggest highs to the biggest lows in the space of a week. After pulling off a miracle comeback against Western Sydney, the Roar blew a three goal lead in Adelaide and had two players sent off in the process.

The bigger loss of the two will be star goalkeeper Jamie Young who is going to be replaced by either Brendan White or Y-League keeper Macklin Freke, either way they will be starting their first A-League match.

Did You Know?

Roar

Brisbane Roar have not tasted victory at home in the A-League since November last year, having recorded three losses and a draw on home soil since then.

Sydney

Sydney FC will be looking to avoid-back-to back defeats on the road in the A-League for the first time since March 2014, after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Victory on Australia Day at AAMI Park.

Betting Insights

  • The favourite has won each of Sydney FC’s last 10 A-League matches.
  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in nine of Brisbane’s last 10 A-League night matches as an underdog.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in eight of Sydney FC’s last nine A-League matches as an away favourite.

TIP: Sydney

WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS VS CENTRAL COAST MARINERS – SATURDAY 9 FEBRUARY, 5:35PM, SPOTLESS STADIUM

Wanderers

Last 5 Matches: LLLDL
Ladder Position: 8th
Goal Difference: -16 (GF 11, GA 24)

Mariners

Last 5 Matches: WDLLL
Ladder Position: 10th
Goal Difference: -22 (GF 18, GA 40)

Given the position of both of these clubs in overall standings, this looks like being one of the better contests in Week 18 of the A-League. The Wanderers were absolutely flogged by the Jets last weekend, while the Mariners were unlucky not to take anything from the Victory.

Did You Know?

Wanderers

Western Sydney Wanderers have won their last three Hyundai A-League fixtures against Central Coast and will be aiming for a fourth consecutive win over the Mariners for the first time.

Mariners

The Mariners have lost their last eight games away from home, their worst losing streak on the road in the Hyundai A-League; this is despite leading at half-time in three of their last four away games (D1).

Betting Insights

  • Central Coast has lost each of its last eight A-League away matches.
  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in each of Western Sydney’s last seven A-League matches.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in each of Western Sydney’s last seven A-League matches.

TIP: Wanderers

MELBOURNE CITY VS ADELAIDE UNITED – SATURDAY 9 FEBRUARY, 7:50PM, AAMI PARK

City

Last 5 Matches: LDWLL
Ladder Position: 5th
Goal Difference: 3 (GF 21, GA 18)

Adelaide

Last 5 Matches: LWDWW
Ladder Position: 4th
Goal Difference: 5 (GF 25, GA 20)

City have a perfect opportunity to jump right back into fourth place with a win over the team that leapfrogged them in Round 17.

Adelaide’s miracle comeback over Brisbane was enough to vault them up the ladder but if United don’t back it up this weekend it will be all for nought.

History is not on Adelaide’s side here with City unbeaten in the last five meetings between these teams, winning four of them.

Did You Know?

City

City’s Luke Brattan has scored four goals from outside the box this Hyundai A-League season, more than what the entire Adelaide United team have managed (three).

Adelaide

The Reds are undefeated in their last four Hyundai A-League games and have not enjoyed an undefeated run of five games in the competition in a single season since the Grand Final of 2015/16.

Betting Insights

  • Three of Melbourne City’s last four A-League Week 18 home matches have resulted in a draw.
  • The ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in three of Melbourne City’s last four A-League night matches at AAMI Park.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has failed to hit in four of the last five A-League matches between Melbourne City and Adelaide.

TIP: Adelaide

MELBOURNE VICTORY VS PERTH GLORY – SUNDAY 10 FEBRUARY, 5:00PM, AAMI PARK

Victory

Last 5 Matches: WWDWW
Ladder Position: 2nd
Goal Difference: +18 (GF 39, GA 21)

Glory

Last 5 Matches: WDDWW
Ladder Position: 1st
Goal Difference: +20 (GF 36, GA 16)

This could be a preview of this season’s grand final and we’re set for an absolute blockbuster when the second-placed Victory host the league-leading Perth Glory on Sunday. Both clubs have been terrific all season and both have genuine claims on winning this one, and the championship come season’s end.

Did You Know?

Victory

Victory have lost just one of their last 13 Hyundai A-League games at AAMI Park (W9, D3), but have kept their opponents goalless just once in this span.

Glory

Perth Glory have won their last two Hyundai A-League games against Melbourne Victory and will be aiming for a third successive win against them for the first time since August 2009.

Betting Insights

  • Perth has won each of its last three A-League matches as an away underdog.
  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in each of Melbourne Victory’s last six A-League matches as a favourite.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in each of the last six A-League matches between Melbourne Victory and Perth at AAMI Park.
