Trial Review: Horses You Must Follow From The Trials Over The Past Week 14/2
February 14, 2020
The carnival is upon us which makes it an important time to keep an eye on the trials to see who has come back in top form so we’ve had Dean Watling assess the times and replays and he’s selected 3 horses for you to put into your black book.
Deprive – Warwick Farm 13/2/20
The Godolphin trained 5yo gelding produced the trial of the morning, he sits just below the top sprinters from Cummings stable but after his trial this morning he can more the rise to the top. Has a blistering turn off foot with a relaxed attitude, two huge attributes that established his outstanding record. Sat quite in the second half of the trial before accelerating sharply under a hold. He looked to really love the soft going. Swept fast the field in a blink to win the trial in ultra-impressive style.
When To Bet
Likely to go to the Challenge Stakes or Southern Cross first up with an ultimate goal of a Brisbane Winter. Very excited about his return.
Savatanio – Warwick Farm 13/2/20
Outstanding prep in the spring, love her racing style which gives her every chance. Really stamped her authority in the inaugural running of “The Hunter”. She is built like a tank and uses her beast of a stride to power away from her rivals. Love the way she eased around the bend and matched motors with Deprive, look to do it all in second gear. This tells us she has returned super where the next level is knocking on the door.
When To Bet
Will go to the Robert Sangster over the 1200m first-up before a shot at the Goodwood. She will likely be favourite for this and we can defiantly cash in.
Steel Diamond – Warwick Farm 13/2/20
Sneaky trial from the Rick Worthington trained 3yo filly. Put together a stylish win last prep before having issues in the Group 2 Silver Shadow. Have an opinion of this daughter of Star Witness, and this first trial back suggests she has come on. Sat midfield causing through the heavy 9 conditions. Snuck up the inside under a nice hold before extending beautifully to match motors with both Deprive and Savatiano. If that’s anything to go by she is in for a great prep.
When To Bet
Will likely return in a nice 1000-1200 black-type race. I would love to see her go around at Randwick or Rosehill where we can see her full turn of foot displayed. Exciting.
