Horses You Must Follow From Caulfield Last Saturday 8/2
After a profitable Saturday, Dean Watling is back to give you a list of horses that you must follow from the Caulfield meeting.

Fierce Impact

  • Race: 8
  • Distance: 1400m
  • Grade: Group 1

The most underrated WFA horse in Australia has gone around in his last 3 starts $8 + all in group 1’s, winning two and coming second in Saturdays C.F. Orr Stakes. 1400m is just short of the son of Deep Impact’s best trip.

Traveled nice in the run before pulling out at the top of the straight took a stride or two to get going before savaging the line late to just miss, 1600m he wins. Smith has him flying and 9 times out of 10 good bulls in form stay in form. L200 – 11.25 was the 4th fastest of the entire meeting.

When To Bet

Pushes onto the Chipping Norton Stakes now over the 1600m at Royal Randwick, will be very hard to beat.

Bold Star

  • Race: 6
  • Distance: 1100m
  • Grade: Group 2

Ultra consistent 4yo son of Needs Further. Boasts an impressive record with 18 starts for 7 wins and 5 placings. Relished the hot tempo at Caulfield where they went at + 0.03, recorded the best figures of the day but was no match for another elite 3yo crop, Anaheed carrying only 54kg. Love the way he attacks the line in all his races really loves to win.

Fastest L600 – 32.75, L400 – 21.73 and L200 – 11.08 of the entire meeting, proper sectionals.

When To Bet

I would love a move back to Flemington anything up to 1200 ideal, similar tempo where he can build into the race and unleash the powerful finish he possesses.

Wild Planet

  • Race: 6
  • Distance: 1100m
  • Grade: Group 2

Solid return by the Hawks trained now 4yo, sneaky run for mine, which a lot would have missed. Wasn’t the spot to be last the rail but Wild Planet worked into the races stylishly and looked to motor into the placings over the last 50m but was quickly shut out and vigorously sustained by Dunn. No doubt would have been in placings. Writing on the wall for a big 2nd up performance now.

L600 – 33.04 and L400 – 22.05 4th fastest of the entire meeting, was building for a special L200 before being blocked.

When To Bet

Up to 1200m now. Look to map a lot closer from barrier 3-9. Similar speed where they will likely take him back to Sydney. Will come up juicy odds.
